I think you have many ideas that are basically the same so I wish you good luck & my 2cents is using the right scissors can make this much easier. ~hugs Loralye~
I use wash-away stabiliser (wss). After the tack down stitching cut back front and back close to the stitching while being careful not to cut the stabiliser, then do the satin stitch outline. Cut away the stabiliser close to the stitching, then use a wet sponge (or a cotton tip, Q tip or whatever you call them) and remove the last bits of wss.
Hi mops is this like an applique technique? Ok one step at a time. 1-is the wss stablizer first in the hoop. 2-is the outline stitching. 3-is the felt and stitch it around. 4-is the back felt and stitch around. Cut away the felt before I stitch the satin stitch. Then do step 5-stitch satin stitch and unhoop and cut the wss close to the satin stitch. Is this how it is done?
Thank you.
I do as the others have stated
Use washable and cut close to the stitching
I also put fray check on the stitching so that if per chance I do cut too close it wont come undone

cut as close as you can without cutting the design .Then i use colored markers for fabric to color the edge .Noone knows the difference and it then looks well done (which it is right) i also buy kids markers and use them if it is not to be washed .hugs Carolyn
I also do what Toogie does, however if I'm using a tearaway you can get pokies around the edges. So I usually use washaway stabilizer. You can just use a little water to remove it.
I do as Toogie has suggested. If I work with felt I sometimes use pinking shears to make a nice edge.
Trim as close as you can, AFTER the tackdown stitches and BEFORE the satin stitches. Sometimes I restitch the tackdown. Also you may put the same thread in your bobbin for the satin st, which you may have done here. This is just how I do it.
For this kind of tags I use tear away stabilizer. After the first outline is stitched I cut the fabric near this line and then I stitch the satinstitch.
If necessary, I change the stitches, so the satinstitch is the last.
You just have to be careful.go slowly and use a very sharp scissors. Leave a bit of a border, you can always trim more off
