I made beet jam years ago and it was very good. Kinda tasted like raspberry jam if I remember correctly.
Never had beet jam. That sounds interesting. Strawberries and beets does sound like a strange combination. You have been so busy with canning.
Nice work again! Beet jam sounds interesting, never tried that, but I did carrot jam and that tasted nice and sweet. Tomorrow I'll have a go at marrow jam ( or rather oversized courgette - got one from a friend that weighs almost 4 lbs, the courgette that is, not the friend). And I'll have to search for jamjars.
lol! Laughing at your 4 lb comment. I've not heard of the marrow jam. That sounds interesting too!!!
wow I have heard & had Zuchini bread & have BBQ it & my daughter makes Zuchini relish but I have not heard of Zuchini Jam? That sounds like something I am going to have to try! can you add the recipe here too? Please
I love carrots too & that also sounds very good if you add the recipe for the Zucchini Jam would you also add it for the Carrot Jam Please
Yummy. I wish I lived near you so we could work together.
You make me realize how much I miss doing all I use to do, although I have never made or eaten any beet jam it does sound good because I'm a beet lover. You are so industrious. Lillian
Oh fantastic! You are so creative - it makes me jealous or jamless :-)
The beet jam sounds very interesting. Thank you Maria
You are definitely a busy bee with all this preserveing
I am trying to think what to make next lol I am hoping to make a very good variety gift Basket with all the preserves I am making............so far a lot of jams lol need to come up with something more & daughter is making pickles ..........I was thinking Chutney sound sgood
I say puree it and make beet soup...borscht...
yup I was thinking that too except that it has certo in it. I was sure that I added it but then it was thin so I added another box & it is still thin, which is why maybe I forgot to add the sugar?
Beet jam is a new one for me. In fact we never even canned the beets. Pickled a few jars but that was it. Thanks for the info.
Before you throw out the batch in the middle, taste it first. If it taste ok, eat it now or put in freezing containers & freeze it or reprocess it with maybe more sugar. It seems such a shame to throw out your hard work.
the batch in the middle the darker one has not set So I will have to throw it out? I don't know what else to do with it? Maybe I forgot to add the sugar it is so much darker then the rest?
hi , maybe you did not put in enough certo (pectin), or sugar , or you did not cook it down longer.with mine when that happens i put it in the fridge and use it on pancakes, bake a cake and use it. on french toast. today i made the pineapple and peach jam.boy those ontario peaches are so oo good and the jam is just supper.
sounds like a yummy batch for you too & yes the Ontario peaches are terrific! I have to wonder if I forgot the sugar? I like your ideas they sound pretty good too.
I love pickled beets, and love the color!!! Not tried jam, sounds interesting.
