Berny, you are half way there to putting your room back to how it works for you. You have admitted it to yourself and us.
I just moved house and couldn't even get into the room designated as my sewing room the boxes were flowing out the door - literally!
I use it as my escape room. I too am getting older and have a sick husband. When he and life get too much for me I go into my sewing room disaster and move something so I can sit down, then I move something else. I have no idea where anything is as I haven't finished moving boxes and sewing furniture to their designated home spots. I have a plan sticky tapped to the door and I check it every now and then. Some times I don't do anything in there. I just sit and hide from the rest of my responsibilities. Other times I achieve a lot.
At present it is looking well - there is a hole in the middle of the room - no boxes!! I moved my sewing cabinet a few inches and things just happened..
So take heart and have a go. It is better than not being able to sew at all.
I actually saw my sewing machine on the weekend. Haven't seen it or been able to see it for a month since we moved. Hope to get some sewing done soon. The shower curtain that we bought for the recess needs taking up!
Sorry to hear that it did not work out. Maybe you will get used to it and later love it. All the best, but you have my heartfelt sympathy.
Old age. I find I do not move or change anything-because I will not remember where I put it. Hope you can get back to sewing soon
Any re organization takes it out of one. My DH always says 'Rome was not built in a day'. Hopefully some help is around the corner. Hugs Sarah.
I definitely feel for you Berny, it must be the right season for reorganizing I'm also in that position, like the ladies before me I think asking at your Church or Scouting group for some help would be the answer.. if all fails check the paper for a handyman maybe they will do at Seniors rates. Good luck and let us no how you get on.. Marian
Oh Berny I really empathise with you as it is no mean feat re-organising our sewing rooms.
If you have the room, and depending on the size of your tables, you might find a "U" layout could work best as you can access the two (side) tables from both sides by standing in between them and the end table also offers access from both sides.
This layout works for me, I have one of the (side) tables as a cutting and laying out table, the other (side) table has two machines on one long (outside) edge, the end table has one embroidery machine on the long edge and the smaller overlocker on the short edge.
I can even put a chair in between the two side tables and sit at my spare machine when necessary.
I have put really detailed labels all my plastic containers so I can find fabrics without having to pull the containers out of the cupboards.
I know none of this will help you move it all around again, but if you know in advance that something works at least it is small encouragement.
hugs n roses, Meganne
My heart is going out to you. I wish I could help.
Bless your heart! Will pray that something/someone comes along and helps your plight. :-)
Im so sorry it is plaguing you. Are there any helpful neighbors around? I hope you can find some help.
Berny do you live anywhere near East Texas I could help on a weekend
oh boy wish i lived near you it would be redone for you hugs and asking someone there to help carolyn
I too feel like I am disorganized. I keep changing things around and then I forget where I put it. You are not alone. I think I have too much stuff and not enough room for it all.
I'm still working on reorganizing my sewing room and it's been a long haul. I was sick of knowing I had something but no clue where it was. I am slowly getting there and that is also driving me nuts!
The idea of your getting a teen to help is a great idea.
I understand all too well what you are facing. My husband calls it going from disorganized to organized but that 3rd step is the killer. To get reorganized into the final set up. Take heart, you are not alone. I like graceandham's idea of asking a teen to help you.
Berny thinking of you with your sewing dilemmas.
I so relate. Is there perhaps a strong young teen boy in your church you could hire to come reset it while you tell him what to put where? Think of it as babysitter money - you're trying to make your baby (machine) happy.
I totally empathize. I feel I have been cleaning and organizing since I started this hobby. Have to move the old stuff out of the way, and now of course I need this and that and have to dig for it!
