I've been working on some mug rugs and was using Fray Check on the satin stiched border in case I clipped the edges to close. However, I was astounded that it left the rugs smelling so bad. I had used Fray Check before, but not so much, just little dots. Does anyone know if this odor will go away? I've had some sitting around for several days now, and they still smell. I had made one and put it in a cellopane envelope, but when I opened the envelope I couldn't believe that it smelled so bad.

I use it all the time and never had a smell. Could be the material dye . It may have reacted with the dye they used in the material. I would try soaking the mug rugs in baking soda and a little oxy clean. won't hurt anything but might take out the smell. Good luck. Suzanne

I have used fray check for years and still have my original bottle. I have never noticed a smell. Leave the mug rugs outside in the sunshine and see if that helps.

I've never noticed the after-smell and have been using it for years. It does smell initially, but after it drys I've never smelled it and I use it on my grand children's clothing and trust me, I'd smell it there. Maybe the bottle you have is old, or exposed to extreme heat? I don't know?

I don't know. I did read on Designs by Sick that ironing makes Fray Check softer. Maybe ironing would also lessen the smell. Another tip about Fray Check there, I but haven't tried either of them. Guess it's time for a scrap test!

It does smell very badly. I have no suggestion other than to rinse it with softener.

Don't use this much, hate smells, would airing them outside help? Storing them in plastic could make it worse....I believe there are other methods that do not smell like fray check, hope others can help.
