9/11/14 Hey all you wonderful grandmothers out there. Just saw someone was stitching to take something to the grands on a visit and I had a wonderful memory of my grandmother who lived 1,000 miles away. She didn't get to visit as often as we wished, but when they came, they always had "first minute gift" and "last minute gift." It was a way to increase the joy of arrival and lessen the sting of departure. This was such a blessing. They were usually insignificant little $1 things, a handkerchief, hair ribbon, pack of gum, a crisp dollar bill for our piggy banks, but oh, how we looked forward to them. We knew the ritual and I believe we should have lots of rituals in family. Hope you can use this!

That's pretty neat! My mom on birthdays for my sons would have an "unbirthday" present for the non birthday boy, such as a couple of dollars or something inexpensive, I've tried to practice the same in my traditions.
I also go to several thrift stores and pick up something I think they'll like, that way it doesn't break my budget, if I don't find something, I will give them a dollar or gum too on other visits, since I don't see them so much. Grandma tries to keep them in goodies. :)

Lovely idea, I will do this on my visit. First gift will be a shirt for both and on the last day the girls will get something for little crafters, so they can work with it and think to me.
Thank you for posting this.

That is a wonderful tradition. I think I will use it for my coming holiday guest!
