Quilt.

Couple of years ago my SiL bought me some 25 - 35 cm pieces of Vlisco fabric in the factory's personnel store for a pittance. I used 6 pieces and added two plain fabrics, the orange and the green, and used the Hidden Wells pattern. It resulted in this colourful quilt, which I called African Wells.
I quilted on the machine, using the walking foot for straight lines, meandered some parts, and in others I embroidered the outlines of a rhino design from Husqvarna card 37, African Arts.
Left-overs of the brownish strips and some scraps were used in the quilt I did last week.
Now that the quilt bug has bitten again I might use some more of those fabrics. There are a number of indigo and white prints that would go nicely together. A riot of prints, but easy on the colour.

It looks far more difficult than it was. Actually it was great fun to do and see how the striped blocks when cut on the diagonal and rearranged made such nice and unexpected patterns.

Those are very unique fabrics that you usually don't see in a quilt. They work together so well in this quilt and that makes it so fantastic. You were brave to cut the fabric up! Well done!

As the link in my answer to worbl does not work: here is the link to a hidden wells tutorial.
Whereas they use equal sized strips I used strips of varying width.

Golly, Gee Martine, I love it, I love it. So colorful I have never heard of the Hidden wells Pattern and it is not mentioned in my quilters Block Bible I tried to find it. this is definitely a show quilt, a work of art./Lillian

Hi Lilian, I had the pattern from an old magazine, so I googled it just now and found instructions here http://moosestashquilting.blogspo...
It is just stripes wof sewn together, cut into blocks and those blocks are quartered diagonally then sewn together in a strict manner. You end up with all sides on the bias so careful sewing is necessary. Starching helps.

Thank you. Yes, it is nice to get a couple of things finished. And there are a few things waiting patiently - those that I am quilting by hand. There's always some thing that comes first ...
