Thank you for this. I have the exact same trimmer that I use for cutting DH hair - has not got much hair left - LOL. I am going to try this.
Your welcome. Just try it on a test design. Hopefully the blades will still be sharp on yours, but they are so inexpensive, its worth getting a new one.
$12? Where did you get it! I want one! I have used these before on hair, so I think I may need 2 in order to keep one for myself.
I bought it at Walmart, in Canada, but am sure you can buy them, anywhere. I did see it on Amazon, I believe.
I'm really going to have to find one of these and purchase it. Sat. was frog day for me, rip it, rip it, rip it, everything I did/Lillian
What a GREAT idea!! Thankyou so much for posting this.
Thanks Jerri asked hubby if I could borrow his one for trimming his mo with, he said I could try it once if it works he'll but me one for my sewing room.. Marian
As I said, don't spend a lot of money and buy the smallest head and test it out on a design. The one I bought and the way I did it worked well for me.
Hi Again: The one I bought has a very small head area, its only 1" across. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, in case it didn't work, so just looked for the cheapest one with the smallest head area.
PLEASE TEST A DESIGN FIRST, BEFORE YOU USE IT ON A GOOD DESIGN, Just to make sure it works for you. I DID IT ON THE BACK OF THE DESIGN, CUTTING THE BOBBIN THREADS, and THEN USED TWEEZERS TO PULL OUT THE THREADS.
I am not shouting, just want to make sure every tests it first.
Great idea. Now I have to look, because somewhere I have one. Used to cut my husbands hair with one of these. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jerri, I love your idea. Can this be bought at Walmart or do you get them at a Sallys Beauty Supply? I have some regular size clippers that I used today, on both my husband and myself. They are getting old, and I oil them, so I wouldn't use them for my fabrics. At this price, I could get some just for my sewing room. I like new ideas and thank you for sharing with us. -Toogie
Hi Toogie: I bought it at Walmart here in Canada, but I am sure your Walmarts will have something the same. I just bought the cheapest and the one with the smallest head.
Thanks for the info. Can any hair clippers do or do they have to be a WAHL. I clippers but not these.
I am not sure on the big clippers, this one has a small head on it. I am sure any brand will do. I just know Wahl are good and this one worked well.
Oh wow! This is going on my Christmas want list! Thanks, Suzanna
I had some embroidery to take out and I tried my hair clippers. It took it out and there was no damage to the fabric. Now my clippers found a new home in my sewing room.
Its amazing what we think up when we need to fix something and nice to share our ideas.
what a great idea Jerri, I have one of these too & now I know what to do with it lol!~hugs~
It really worked well for me Loralye, look at the new picture I added as that is how I used ti and where the blades are, is where the stitches where before I cleaned all the fuzz up with tweezers.
Don't you just love this....I have had one for about four years now...found it at a quilt show for "seam ripping" and thought...why not...it is great for just trimming those threads on the back of your embroidery to "neaten" it up..especially for the kiddles who get scratchy...
I am happy with this one and glad I decided to try a cheap one, now I don't need the expensive one.
Thank you for this info will try it next time I have to unpick something as I already have one of these for doing my dogs paws!
This one worked very quickly and well worth the $12. I didn't use it like you would trimming hair, I flipped it over and just put the blades on the bobbin threads. Try it on a test design first.
Aren't they are basically the same and you are just paying for the name? I know these little dudes (the Wahl) does work. :-)
