I have the Evolve and aren't they just the best!!?? Have read through the comments on this page but didn't see where you got the pattern from. I can pretty well see by the picture, but measurements I will need. My creativity is very much impaired... You have inspired me again!!! My mom could look at a store bought dress, go home and make it...I did not get this wonderful gift! My grand-daughter is 8 and she would love this.
Thanks so much for your kind words...there isn't a pattern...it is just a twirly skirt that I made up...Basically I used 5 inch strips (you decide length), sewed them together to make the width of about 60"...that is the main skirt...then I added a 4.25" a ruffle that was about 120"...rolled hem on both sides...and a 5.5" x 200" black tulle...both gathered to fit the 60" skirt. Sew these to the bottom before you sew up the back of the skirt... Add a waistband that is cut 2.5" x 60"...fold in half lengthwise and press...sew the waistband on the back side of the skirt with 1/4" seam allowance (make sure the right side of the fabric will be on the outside when you flip over the waistband to the front...sew up the back of the skirt...flip to the front, turn and press the raw edge under and top stitch down on the right side...leaving an opening to add the elastic in the waistband casing...whip stitch the opening closed...voila...twirly skirt...
P.S. forgot to add...If you have any questions send me a PM and I would be happy to help!
Somewhere in there you double the number of girls you sew for. Lol! How wonderful they all will have these wonderful skirts and when they get bigger they can pass them down, right?
Thanks, Christine..yes, you are right...the number keeps growing! Wondering how long I can keep up!
Oh goodness, Kim, these skirts are the bomb (and that is in a good way)....your little grand nieces are going to be adorable in these!!
Thanks, Vicki...I don't usually do the special holidays...they have such a short wearing cycle...hopefully they fill fit next year, too (?)...
Knowing girls like I do , I know they will love them. Oh to be young again with brains like you Kim. I love what you do./Lillian
Thanks, Lillian...I so appreciate your kind words...and it is soooo very good to "see" you again!!!
How cute!!! Those are some lucky girls! They are so nice!!!!
Very smart looking skirts! I have the opposite problem 8 boys-- 8yrs to 9mths, not as much you can make them..
I know...I have three boys now and they are not as easy to make things for...seems like all they get are jeans and shirts.
Those are great! Boy, you sure have been busy! Would be cute to see them all wearing them!
These look such fun. :-)
Thanks, Leaha...amazing what you can make with just strips of assorted prints!
Adorable! I do hope they can get together and twirl! ;)
Well done! They look like so much fun! I am sure they will love them
ok now I get it& these are just terrific! I love the rolled hems so quick & easy too but I have to gather the old fashioned way sigh..........lol ~hugs~
Thanks Lor...the rolled hems are a snap with my new BabyLock Evolution...but there is a really easy way to make ruffles on the regular sewing machine...and you don't need any special foot either...set the tension to the highest setting and the stitch length to the longest stitch (like a basting stitch)...and with a single layer of fabric, it will gather about 2 to 1...
So pretty! They are lucky to have you to sew for them.
Oh my, are these adorable. I hope you manage to get a picture of them all wearing the skirts and shirts.
Thanks, Karen...I am hoping that their Moms will send pictures...got my fingers crossed!
Oh my they are going to look darling in these! Did you make the ruffles on the bottom? The selection of fabrics is just so Hallo-weenie. I guess the great thing about 8 girls is next year you would only have to make one for the oldest , and the smallest one would fit one of the dolls.
Just too cute!
Thanks...yes, I made the ruffles...I thought the black tulle was really cool..kind of reminded me of spider webs...then I just loved the candy corn fabric...and you are right, the smallest one on the far right is only about six inches long!
And I think they will love them, too! I love your ruffle. I haven't played with my serger to see how to make a rolled hem. I would have had a lot of practice here, 8 girls! Are they all sisters?
Thanks, Toogie...my new BabyLock Evolution serger is the bomb!! It makes quick work with ruffles...roll hem and gathers them, too...they are both sisters and cousins to each other...three families...
Congratulations on the new machine! I've had mine for 4 years and I love love it! I love to use it to attach elastics too!
