Sometimes I like to make something two sided. However, when I use the embroidery thread in the bobbin, I end up with all kinds of problems...loops, thread nests, broken needles. Does anyone have some tips for me?

I purchased a separate bobbin case and have it adjusted specifically for 40 wt bobbin thread. It's much easier to change out the case than to attempt to readjust the tension each time I change bobbin thread type or fight loops, nests, etc. I'm sure someone out there has additional extra cases for each type of bobbin thread used.

Sulky has a new line of thread called PolyLite that is bobbin weight and comes in a big variety of colors. Perfect for use in the bobbin and also works well in the needle for small lettering. Hugs. Nan W

Good info, thanks! I did try using regular sewing thread in the bobbin and that worked...but hard to match to the same color and sheen as the embroidery thread.

I must be so lucky as I have never had any of these problems. I do use pre wound and my machine and I love them. I am wondering if your bobbin case does not have a rough piece - perhaps where the needle hit it by mistake. I would let someone who knows what they are doing have a look at it.

Do you buy pre wound bobbins to match all your embroidery thread colors?

I was having all those problems when ever I sewed. I bought Floriani thread and Inspira Embroidery Needles and my machine purrs now. Good grade thread and the needles have a larger eye that the thread goes thru. I love them both.

try buying some Pre-wound bobbins. They are usually better than the home wound variety. I too have experienced the same issues, but lots better since my machine tech man set the bobbin for a particular size thread.

When every I have problems it means it time to clean out the bobbin area and give it a drop of oil in the middle. Change the needle also. They say you should only use a needle for 6 to 8 hours of sewing. If the problen keeps it up I take it in. Hope your problem gets fix soon.

Have you tried with a new bobbin? Sometimes they are wound to loose. I for instance can only use the winder on my machine. If I wind the bobbin on any other device, my machine does not like it and acts like yours.

That was a problem at first. I fixed that problem, but it still happens.

I get broken needles when the thread catches on the spool. Have you tried using a larger needle?

Added-9/25-my Ellegante is a sewing/embroidery machine. The one came with 2 bobbin cases. One is set up for regular sewing (and those stitches are great) and the other for Finishing Touch bobbin thread, (which is what they sell-not cheap). When I spent a day at the dealer, while the tech, Earl, worked on my machine, I explained I like my pre-wounds, whose thread seems a bit thicker. He did tweak the bobbin a bit, but I still lower my top tension for embroidering.
Use one of your built-in block fonts to sew out the word FOXY. With your regular bobbin thread, you should see 1/3 top thread.1/3 bobbin,1/3 top. So, test out with the embroidery thread to get to where you just see them equally (use 2 different colors) by changing top tension. I made FSL snowflakes white/pale blue, and needed to tweak tension for that. Good luck.

I'm with Jerrilyn...you may have to take your machine to your dealer and have it checked out...I have never had a problem using my embroidery thread in the bobbin...

Perhaps the tension of thread isn't stable when you fill your bobbin.

That could be the problem! I think the bobbin tension might be set to stitch with bobbin thread and the embroidery thread isn't handled well by it!

I'd think you would have to take your machine in to your technician. I don't have problems using my embroidery thread in the bobbin.

I never have a problem, sometimes I think it the brand of thread. Some machines just don't get along with certain brands. I use Metro thread and it works well in my machine
