You may want to check and see if the sew easy shows are on video. I saw a program. I bet youtube has a video.
Thank u all for ur guidance. ..I will keep in mind all ur suggestions n try it out...will update the outcome:)
Alemausi urs looks pretty good....hope mine too turns out well. ..
N yes u all r right....the fabric texture or fall is also important for cowl neck to turn out well n fall in place n look beautiful! !!
This is how it looks with the pattern in my first comment. If you give more width to the shoulders and make additional folds there you should get it.
Hi tfk, I don't think sewing a cowl neck on a non stretch fabric will ever turn out properly as the fabric won't sit correctly. You really need to have a stretch fabric for the fall of the neckline to sit properly. Good luck anyway. Love Chris
It might if you cut on the bias, I have done that a few times, sometimes on the back and and a couple of times on the front like this one.
I agree with mops, on the bias should work and with a light to medium weight fabric, you can always put a small weight (try a small button or two) in the centre front neck hem as well, this should help create the folds falling correctly. All the best. Thankyou for Sharing. Regards Lorraine McNeill
Well I tried making a cowl neckline on a soft cotton fabric and it never sat right. Even cut on the fold I always felt it too stiff and it wouldn't fall beautifully. A satin, sateen, jersey, chiffon, voile etc. would be ideal. Love Chris
I sewed some shirts with a free english pattern, but got it from a german site.
I will add you the link. Scroll down to Oberteile and then to
Top mit Wasserfallkragen ( in the middle of the site). You get a pdf with a printable pattern and instructions. If you want more gathering then in the pattern make folds on the shoulders
Thnx Elemausi....I downloaded the pattern...will check it out n give it a try...:)
Thnx for the comments n thats a great tip to cut on the bias suelyn....m sure it will give a much better fall to the fabric....I will keep trying n let u all know if I succeed:)
I have made lots of these but only using a simplicity dress pattern ... The only tip I can give you is always cut your fabric on the bias as this helps it to fold and fall lovely. Sorry I can help more but recommend you get a sewing pattern for a top and then you can adapt it for you. Suelyn
I hope you get some great answers. I have also tried this. The only success I have had is making it into a scarf and tying it in the back, not exactly what I wanted but it worked. :o)
