Since you're a South Australian, just buy some CWA-Laucke Scone Mix. It's easy as adding water, then you have fabulous scones. Available at Foodland and some other stores (or ask at your local SACWA Branch). Vicki from Elliston Sth Aus.
I just discovered a reason why I was so confused earlier...
In Utah, the bread products locally called "scones" are similar to Native American frybread and are made from a sweet yeast dough, with buttermilk and baking powder and/or soda added, and they are fried rather than baked. They are customarily served with butter and either honey or maple syrup.
Now, I understand why you all were talking scones and biscuits as if they were close to the same thing. Apparently they are. One is made with butter and the other made with other fats instead of butter. I guess we live in our own little world here LOL
You have so many other things in The USA that we can't get here in Australia.
Isn't this the Popeye's biscuit recipe ?-If not it sure is similar and they are good.
I've tried a recipe similar to this and it was really good but that is quite a bit of butter on the bottom. It made it too rich in my opinion. Lillian said only enough to cover the bottom and that would be better.
I too was thinking it was a lot of Butter. Would it be taken up by the mixture as they were cooking?
Oh, these look yummy! I need to give these a try...
Okay I make these biscuits frequently as my hubby likes them for breakfast. You have been told what the mix is and the 7up any what I call clear non cola drink will work as long as it has the fizz. I use a store brand lemom/lime drink. try them, they are delisous/Lillian
Should have told you, I only make 4 biscuits so I use 1 Cp bisquick, 1/4 cp of sour cream and 1/4 cp of the drink and just enough butter to cover the bottom of the small pan I bake them in/Lillian
Looks yummy! Sounds like what hereabouts is often called 'Shake n Bake Scones' -they were well known as a party trick at Tupperware(plastic storage) parties :)
Sounds like a scone to me. Smoother mixture than biscuit I think. Sounds like fun, maybe when Christie is here. I probably will add a bit of extra flour since I am at a higher altitude.
Scone in Aussie = biscuit in US
Biscuit in Aussie = cookie in US
Wish we all spoke the same English!! but then life wouldn't be as interesting.
Sounds like a biscuit to me. Maybe we should try!! Huggs!!
Hi, bis quick is premixed biscuit mix that has all the dry ingredients and shortening as we'll in it so you just need to add milk to make. A batch of biscuits. You can make lots of other things such as quick breads shortcakes etc.
Dear Lyn,
I think over here in Australia we could use a lemonade/lime drink and a packet of pancake mix! Love Chris
I do think this would work Chris. As long as the drink has fizz then it should produce something very similar.
I am very glad you are always so willing to help.
Hugs
These look like Biscuits. The link will tell you how to make your own Bisquick. It is just a pre-made mix with basic ingredients.
The 7 up is not a cola but a clear lemon/lime soda. It is a bit like Ginger Ale or Club soda but the taste is different. There may be a similar drink in your country.
Hi Lyn, 7up is a Lemon/Lime flavoured soda drink. Bisquip is a pre-mixed baking product by Betty Crocker. Picture below. Love Chris
