Well, I found the Hoop Guards for regular embroidery hoops and they are on sale with free shipping in the U.S. and I thought I would give them a whirl...it comes with four hoop guards...two can be used in smaller frames and all four for larger frames...what the heck...I will post my thoughts after they arrive and I have a chance to give them a try..I do lots of onesies so I am hoping they will work as well for me as they show in the video in the attached link...Jerrilyn, this one is for you!
I went ahead and ordered one 6 days ago, Kim! It has come in, but I haven't had a chance to try it. Thanks.
Ann the Gran had them on Sale a little while ago $15 and free shipping. I ordered them, but haven't used them yet. I live in Canada, so had them delivered to my Daughter's in the States. I wish I had these when I damaged the carriage arm that holds the hoops on my machine. As the needle came around to the bottom of the frame, the excess fabric outside the frame, flipped up over into the stitching area and the needle caught the fabric. The fabric started to wrap itself around the embroidery foot and then bent the carriage. My hoop was on an angle. Its been into the repair shop twice to be fixed. I hope this time he will replace the arm as I think once is bent, it will never be the same. I am praying it will work like new when I get it back.
I would love to have the hoop guard for my hoops, there are 2 types metal that fit the magnetic hoops and plastic ones that fit all others. Was going to buy the plastic one on special but the postage to Australia was twice the price.. Ouch.. it was free postage in USA, I'll have to wait till I go over for a holiday or now of someone who can bring it back for me..
I have now had a look at these. I need to show DH and see if he can com up with something similar :)
no but i saw it, thought maybe I could make one myself out of a plastic school binder, looks simple enough, looks too flimsy for the cost
I got mine in and it feels just like the material a plastic binder is made of. It does have 2 different "bends" grooved into it, one to go over the edge of the hoop and one turned back to hold the onesie out of the way. Let us know what you come up with
Yes, I own the Hoop Guards. They do look flimsy, but they work. The hoop actually causes it to stand up straight. I haven't tried it on anything really heavy like towels yet. I, also, had to trim the bottom edge off because it was in the stitching area, but it works. I got mine when the were on sale. They do work with all hoops, not just the metal magnet frame.
Thank you for your answer. Do you remember where you got yours? I'm thinking $20 plus shipping is more than I want to spend for something I would use occasionally.
I'm thinking that I got mine from sewingmachinesplus.com. I thought the price was a little steep, even on sale, but since I've hurt my wrist I needed a little extra help, and this has helped me allot.
Well, I didn't know what a Hoop Guard was, so I had to go look it up...I have attached a link with a video for any other Cutie who is out of the loop like I was...looks like it only works with a metal magnet frame though...or is there one that works with the "normal" type of embroidery frame?
Hi dragonflyer, Thankyou for the link. Have a great weekend. Regards Lorraine McNeill of South Australia
Hi, do not own one, but embroiderydesigns.com has been advertising them - e-mail dated 8 Oct .Has a video attached to show one how it works. Yes, I agree it does look flimsy.
Regards :-)
