Auto tension, no doubt about it. BabyLock delivers in spades! I love, Love, LOVE all my BabyLock machines (all 3 of them ;)
From reading the comments that you have added here I gather that you don't live near a dealer. Neither do I but I will say that aftercare of a machine is very important. I have a excellent dealer who will give great advice over the phone and on the few visits to the shop to have a machine service. There are shops who sell machines and then they will give no further advice. I know this from first hand experience. So its well worth the day out for me with a two and a half hour journey each way to get the machine serviced. I have 2 Brother machines (one was a demonstration machine used by my dealer) Both my machines have a auto tension that I can alter - which I do. I would also suggest that you check out traded in machines at a dealers as there are currently some great buys as Brother have just brought out a new machine. Personally I prefer Brother but others here will go for other brands. Welcome to Cute and let us know what you but. Finally please post so we can understand what your question is as not everyone is conversant in textspeak. Textspeak doesn't translate well as there are many here who are using English as a second language
I have a Brother with auto thread tension and I have never touched it.
Mind you the service man did adjust the bobbin tension when I took it in for a lesson on a new hoop.
Another serviceman for the Brother machine keeps telling me to check the bobbin thread tension as it is different for different bobbin threads and he sells a thread gauge to help you. I intend to buy one and his work is beautiful.
I think the bobbin gauge is expensive. If you find one, perhaps you could post how you like it.
I have a machine with auto tension and hate it. There are times when I just need to adjust the tension and I can't. Sounded like a good idea when I bought it. Fortunately, I have another machine with out it.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. ..I too feel it will be better when we can control the tension ourselves!
Or atleast it should be both.....have a good day:)
Like Martine, my machine has "auto" tension, but also allows me to manually adjust the upper tension (or bobbin case if I want to,which I never do...I use another bobbin case if I need to adjust tension for special things)...I try to adjust the upper tension for metallics, or quilting when needed or.....but I like the fact that the machine auto "reads" fabrics and threads, but still gives me control to make adjustments if I need to...
I have had both, but the one I love to use has auto tension with the ability to slow it down via the touch screen.
I do not intend to offend you, however because you are new here you may not know that we are a world wide community with more than 9000 daily visitors. You will probably get more help from many talented and experienced Cuties if you try to include the many Cuties that live outside the USA in your posts. Many of our members do not speak English and use a translator. Thnx and other texting words do not even translate. It will actually impede the translators ability to "guess" the meaning for the message.
I have included what your message looks like after it is translated from English to French or German and back to English The translator failed to translate tension correctly -- changing the meaning of the whole message:

Thnx all for ur advice....yes I do wish I had much choice to go n check different dealers n machines...but unfortunately I dont:(
Where I live I hardly have a choice....
I was trying to choose between brother nv750e which has auto tension n janome mc350e which has manual...so I thought I would ask u all experienced users of embroidery machines!
IF it is an either or, I would choose manual. My Bernina has a red line to keep your tension on. If you are having a problem or using a very different thread (Like mops mentioned metallic) I can and do adjust it to suit me.
Good advice from the others. My machine has auto tension, but I can manually change that - which I do when using metallic thread.
I agree with bevintex. I encourage people to go to as many dealers in their area to test stitch all of the different brands they can and keep notes on what they like and dislike about each machine. I do hope that you find the machine that fits you quickly.
Find a emb machine dealer in your area, go in and have them show you the features on the machine you are interested in. They can answer all your questions and point you in the right direction for what you need.
