Gorgeous. I took cake decorating years ago and had such fun. I once did a cake that copied my floral "best" china - pink rosese, yellow daisies, a purple flower. It was so pretty and I don't even have a picture. Every experience in creative endeavors flows over into other creative avenues, like you sewing. You'll learn lots about color in working with the sugar paste! Have fun, dear, the tea shop will happen.
They surly don't look like first attempts. I think you have mastered it in a lesson!!! Go for it! Kay
Your flowers are magnificent! And you are such a good role model for me, to keep being patient, and to accept what God gives us. Thanks you for sharing both!
Your roses and leaves are awesome and would love to see a dew drop as mentioned, that would really add a finishing touch. For the calla lilies I am using our Calla patch as the example. I hate to mention anything, as your first attempt is really exceptionally beautiful but if I had to find an area to improve on it would be the edges of the smaller calla lilies look a bit thick and the petals need to curl a bit on their edge, the center stamen could also be a bit smaller with a slight curve. Will love seeing just how awesome your pieces will be once you have had more than a first attempt! You are going to do fantastic!
Beautiful job! I love making these when I used to decorate wedding cakes. Suzanne
You have an artists eye. These look exceptional, real and dainty. As to flaws...only God's flowers are perfect and even His in nature have some minute imperfection. I love the roses, now all you have to do is practice and if you could somehow manage to have a drop of moisture on them, you will fool everyone who sees them, into thinking they are truly real. I'm not convinced they aren't and you've somehow captured them in their prim...freezing them for eternity.
Thank you...maybe i could look into some sort of hard candy drops for the dewdrop...good idea..
They are beautiful, glad to see you here on Cute.
Wow, just wow. You should be clucking around bragging on how good you are! If you won't, then I will...... ;)
Don't be so hard on yourself , you have done a great job . I went to classes and struggled at first it is like learning to ride your first bike all of a sudden you are away .
Oh, these are absolutely beautiful! I see that you have asked for constructive criticism but I have none to offer as your work is amazing. And, this was your first attempt! I AM impressed. One day, you will have that little Tea Shop and patrons are going to be so spoiled in deliciousness! Hope that you will share photos from your next class!
We will start after the holidays again...meanwhile i have most of the tools now to practice...
Beautiful job...exceptional for your first attempt...I also agree with Mops about the center stamen in the lily...the only other thing I would recommend (and practice makes perfect they say) is to roll your sugar paste a bit thinner...you will get more curl in the petals and your leaves..but, they will be more fragile...wonderful job!!!
I think I was to afraid to press the edge to curl them better....nervous....i will try it so thank you for the advice.
Again...you did an excellent job!...I use a ball tool with a piece of foam to roll the edges... not sure what you are using...
you did beautifully for first time. I hope all you all comes together when you are ready to open shop. I am sew jealous, and to old for new ventures! LOL!
nobody is ever too old....you just get someone younger to do the heavier load and enjoy anything else.
I love them, I love them, the Lillies are gorgous .You are so talented and have a sure hand. Having done some of this many many yrs ago I applaud you. I know "it ain't easy" things will work out for you of this I am sure and know you are loved by many/Lillian
Fantastic, they are way better than my first attempt. Well done.
From Maureen
I cant believe this is your first attempt, I used to teach this craft did it for 25 years, and for a first attempt 10 out of 10, well done, BUT THERE GOES YOUR SEWNG ?????
nope...i will fit it in somehow like i do everything else...Can I pick your brain for tips?
I think I know her well enough to say, she'll look at a piece of fabric and think" hummm I believe I can duplicate this on a cake" go for it my dear Deanna/Lillian
I think your first attempt looks absolutely stunning. Well done.
Oh I have always wanted to make these, it's amazing how real they all look. Beautiful work!
Deanna I think they look fantastic. Great job. I do not see any flaws. If you put these on your desserts at the tea shop you will be doing a great business. Everyone will want to try these. Hugs, Mary
Wow, you are very talented, they look amazing !!
I agree with Mops about the lily, but for the rest awesome !! great job :)
You have done extremely well, I do agree with mops the stamen in the middle of the lily needs to be slightly thinner in some and curve a little this will make the more life like.. Keep on practicing they become easier the more you make..
Your roses and leaves are wonderful; the way the petals curl, the dusting, they are so lifelike. Could you improve that middle thing in the lily by curving that a little bit? Great work!
Will do...Thank you...I see you have worked on sugar pasting..would love to learn more from you...
I only watched an expert do this and did fondant (I guess that's the same as sugar paste) roses myself. And marzipan pigs and pirates, treasure troves and that sort of stuff for grandkids' birthday cakes.
Deanna - these are wonderful - you have a natural talent!! Good luck with your adventures!!! Hugs, Laura
Thank you Laura...I worked with silk flower arrangement (horticulture 1 and 2 in school...sure helped in this area with a lot of the techniques
Well Deanna, if these are your firs attempts, they are amazing. You can only improve from now on.
I'm so sorry there will be a delay in the opening of your Tea Shop but as you say in God's time. I love what you have done and I know the cake will look fabulous. Love Chris
Thank You Chris I really value everyone's imput...its ok with the shoppe....I found another Lady that does different things that will work beautiful with my shoppe...We are practically family through the lines and we get along really well....since both of us will be doing things that will compliment the other's dreams it is going to work in the end...She Believes in God also and together we can make it more unique and a place where people can come to relax and unwind...
I am with Toogie. I can not see anything wrong with them. They look awesome.
Thank you...I think I enjoyed the time with the lady who was giving me the lessons more......I had a great time....got to remember all the steps...
Are these edible? They look so real. If there ARE any flaws, I don't notice them. You are doing so well, no reason you are in love doing these. It's so nice to be able to enjoy what we like to do. Good luck and all things happen in Gods time. Good to know you accept this.-Toogie
They are edible..well except the wires...everything is made in sugar paste-coloring-dusting powder..all human consumption... .I think i will try to do some without the wires...those will have to be put directly on the cakes though...my thought to learn was when i do the cupcakes..I wanted them to look elegant
