I watched Sky News all day yesterday. What a tragedy that it had to end the way it did. My thoughts go out to all Aussies involved.

Everything was in lock-down. I wanted to use the library a few blocks away from Martin Place and was very disappointed to find the doors locked.
Didn't hear that on the news before I left the office! So wasted a half a day. I thought it was just a hold-up when I left work and not that the 'sick being' had threatened with more bombs and devices elsewhere. So I wasn't expecting to have half the city in lock-down or all those roads blocked.
Don't know if there were really more things elsewhere or if any were found. Just glad it is over and hope that the people who were in that café can resume their lives asap.
I was at the top of Martin Place, but I didn't stop to look as I don't like rubber neckers. I walked where I wanted to go then walked back to where I could catch a bus when I realised that things were bigger than I had first thought.

Thank you to all for your kind wishes and prayers. This horrific seige is now over with people dead. As one of my fellow Australians put it this morning "Australia has lost its innocence". This should not be happening anywhere in the world. Hopefully there will not be any repercussions associated with this.
Peace to all.

My heart and prayers go out to everyone. I visited Sydney several years ago. I just hate the thought of this violence.

It is 1:00 AM here now and there is still no resolution to the siege taking place in the heart of Sydney but the gunman has supposedly been identified as a Muslim extremist known to Police.
We can only pray that this ends peacefully.
I hope the link below works for anyone wishing to follow the situation.

Reading the news to hand it is most distressing when one understands that Martin Place is a popular section of Sydney where office workers meet up to have coffee, or sit and have lunch and it is where, every year, a huge Christmas tree is erected (much like in Times Square).
It is the site of the main Post Office and a most familiar place to anyone who has ever worked in, or visited Sydney as it is used as a thoroughfare between two main streets, being George and Pitt Street and extending to Castlereagh Street.
My last job was only 3 doors down from Martin Place, in Castlereagh Street and I would have walked through Martin Place three or four times a day, every day for three years.
As a child I remember sitting on the GPO steps to eat lunch when we went into the city with my Mum.
I am truly unsettled by what is happening there now.
