I tried this crazy quilting since my Grand daughter Savannah was here thee other day.As she wishes to make her own first quilt,So i tried it on this 17x17 piece .Way to slow this could take forever .So i really need a pattern that will be pieced but make up faster ***I did a few different cross stitches in different colors to show her.Any pattern or ideas would sure help me .Thanks for LQQKING Carolyn

Carolyn, I make some wonky quilts (similar to this) by simply cutting 17x17 inch squares, stacking up 8-12 of them, randomly cutting across them, then swap one of the cut pieces to the bottom and sewing them back together. You don't have to match any seams, and you can make as many cuts as you want. I usually make 4-5 different cuts across the squares. Once I finish doing this, I square them up to a standard size (usually 15x15), sew the blocks together, add a border or two, and all done. I have gone back and done some embroidery on the seams while quilting, but not always.

It's pretty fast to do, not near as pretty as one done the normal way.. but pretty in a different way.

It's a beginner way to do this sort of thing. I taught one of my friends to quilt, and this was her first one (and still her most favorite pattern).

I'm going to look later to see if I have any pictures to show you how it comes out. This is a similar thing, but I don't do quite as orderly. I also typically put a piano key border on them using strip techniques, to add to the patchiness of the quilt.
