I have a story to tell and I wondered if any of you have experienced this...At the Bernina/Brother dealer today "window shopping" and drooling over a multi-needle machine...A man and his wife were there too. He offered to buy the new Bernina multi-needle embroidery machine for her -- she declined. He tried repeatedly to convince her to let him buy her the machine. She had her reasons...she was busy and didn't want to get caught up learning a new machine, she didn't have the room to add another machine....

This is the first time I have ever seen a man beg a woman to buy a new embroidery machine.
Have any of you ever had this happen to you or seen it happen to someone else?

many years ago when I was dreaming of getting my fist embroidery machine. the sales girl was demonstrating it for me. I was drooling as my son (a USMC recruiter at the time) walked over. He asked her the price. She said 69,95 my son thought she meant $69.95 and said wrap it up for her. my mouth hit the floor and quickly explained to him $6995.00 Then his mouth hit the floor. Needless to say I did not get the machine but love my memory and my son. hugs, Susan

No I usually see the gentleman trying to hurry the lady out before the thought occurs to her that she really would like to have another machine. LOL/Lillian

My personal experience was when my husband and I stopped at a shop that sold Viking machines. I have wanted an embroidery machine for ages. The sales clerk knew me and my wants. But, I, stubborn as can be, declined the offer for him to buy it for me. But, to my surprise, he purchased it behind my back and had it all figured out when I was to take lessons, too. He is the most wonderful man.

What a great story. This woman knew what she had and what she wanted I guess. It sounds like this couple is a great pair.

She couldn't decide between that machine and the "one that does it all"

Maybe the husband should have just gone ahead and bought it for himself sounds like he really wanted that machine.

Flowers for all of you!
I love reading your comments! Thank you for sharing your experiences with me.
My 11 year old son thinks the woman has lost her mind. As the man had engaged my young sons in conversation...the 11 year old provided solutions to each of the objections the woman gave her husband. The man listened with a smile -- agreeing with all the solutions my son offered. It is a blessing to me to see that my sons understand the need many women have to create and they are willing to find a way to make it happen.

For all the Cuties that have a husband willing to support them and encourage them in their hobby -- cherish them! Men willing to buy new $17,000 machines -- like the man in the shop -- are rare indeed!

I would have jumped at the offer and even though I also don't have the room I would make sure I could find the room.

I hate to be a bummer, but I have seen two Webinars on that new baby and thought i would love to have one until I saw the Webinars. It is wonderful machine if one is stitching multiple items. I rarely stitch multiple items. Mine are mostly one of a kind! I think it is two much machine for me. They even deliver it as people can't load her up and bring her home. That should tell you something also. Kay

I would love it -- as many have asked me to stitch out multiples of the same design. I would love having the one-to-one instruction -- in my home -- that is included with this machine.
One day...

He must be a long-lost brother to my DH. When my hardy ole singer died after 40 years and no longer could be repaired, my hubby took me shopping. He got a bank load without my knowing it and worked it all out. All I had to do was say "yes"--made my life happy again. Sewing is my passion, as you all are infected with this virus, I know you understand.

it's funny my hubby wont break down and let me get a multi-needle but i drag him to the repair shop and have him help me load the machine and pay the repair bills for a grand total of 1400.00 this year so times that by 2 for the past 2 years well i figure it won't be long till i qualify for a trade in....lol

Now to this I can relate. I have to tell you that if it were not for my dear hubby I would not be embroiderying today. He was with me when I went to look at a new sewing machines to replace my 25 year old model that needed to take a break. I looked over what they had to offer and he came to me and said ''I think you should look into one of these machines''. I looked at the price and said ''I don't think so, not in the budget''. I am sure I pondered at least 30 minutes in the store, examining this machine and going back to the regular sewing machine, all the whilehe kept trying he convince me that the difference in price was worth going for the embroidery machine. So I finally gave in and I guess that means I have my dear hubby to thank for all that do today.
Of course when he pushed me to buy this machine, he had no clue what I had to purchase to make it work, ie, new computer, threads, stablilizer and all the other fixings.
So that is why I LOVE this man so much (along with a million other reasons) he just knew my creativity would blossom with such a machine,
I am very, very grateful
Theres my story
hugs and merry Christmas and happy Holiday season to all
Michelle

Mine learned this quickly. He bought me the Metro thread bundle for Christmas that first year. And, he asks how I am doing on needles and such. He even asks if I need to go fabric shopping yet. What a guy, eh?

katydid by katydid 21 Dec 2014

Are you serious???? He is a keeper. When I tell my sweetie that I am stopping by Joannes for a few minutes , he says " You really need more fabric". He also says that I really need more alphabets, when I check for the daily letters. I don't pay any attention to those remarks. Kay

Truth be told, my husband would probably do the same thing if I was obsessed with getting it...many a time he has said, just buy it, we can't take the money with us! He does add one more comment when he says this...it is "If you really need it, and what you have isn't working for you..get it"...well, that's the part that will sometimes stop me..."If you really NEED it"...and is what I already have not good enough....If I have to think about it for too long, I really don't need it...He did say this to me last June when I was kvetching about my serger...and I must say, I did take him up on the offer and rushed out and got my BabyLock Evolution serger which I LOVE!!!

The "If you really need it" thing is reverse psychology. He puts a guilt trip on you.

Nah...I'm smarter than that...and I make my own decisions!

sometimes this is one of the tricks sales people use to convince other prospective clients...to make you think that even your husband wants you to buy another machines...I seen this in other places.

Yes, a possibility! My friend just got a new vehicle and the husband took off for a two week hunting trip to Alaska. Now you tell me why she got the new SUV? Kay

My husband has asked me on several occasions when I was watching the features of a new machine; "why don't you buy it?" and that's how I ended up buying the Ruby when I came in to collect my Designer 1 after it had been serviced. But he did not offer to pay the bill... And no begging.
When I had my 4-needle serviced and I looked at the 16-needle Bravo he told me it was too heavy for him to load it in the car for service and house calls would be costly. A nice way to say No, I guess. Anyway, I would not feel very comfortable having such an expensive machine sitting idle while I was enjoying other things, and whereas I don't like shopping I love admiring those super machines.
