Babylock have just brought out a new serger to die for, waiting for it to arrive in U.K. you must look it up ....I have the babylock Evolution

I have a friend who just bought this model in Sept. and she loves it. I had convinced her 5 thread was the way to go, if it was in her budget. You won't regret it.
I do not know the cost on the singer , but for around $1000. you can get a baby lock with air thread. I have had mine for a while now and it is so easy to operate. No more screaming when you change the thread. I have an" imagine". Previously , had an Elna top of the line and it gave me many hours of grief. Kay
I have a Brother serger an Elna coverstitch. I like having each machine set to do what they do, no need to stop and switch. I recently used both and my sewing machine on the same project. I would definitely go to a dealer where you can try them and have back up support and even classes. Good luck!
i watched a demo on this baby and loved it all mine are singer and not one broke in 20 years lol hugs
That's the difference, the older machines are still alright, it's just the newer ones that have problems. I bought a Singer as that is what Mom had and had to trade it back to them for a the brother I have. My singer was a lemon. However the ones I have from Mom that sew only are great.
Definitely go with a Babylock serger. It is both an overlocker and a chain stitch machine in one. And no other serger is as easy to thread as a Babylock serger. I agree, go check out your dealers and test stitch every serger you can before making a decision. Best wishes in your search.
I have a Janome embroidery machine and sewing machine.Do you think I should go with a Janome? What about a Cover Pro 1000 CP or CPX.
I want one with top stitch.
I am with the other folks here....I wouldn't go with Singer. BUT I can tell you I spent a bundle on a Viking and wish I hadn't done that as well. One thing that is important is that it should have a free arm so that you can do around cuffs. The Viking did not have this and I miss it. Do others of you have features that she should look for???
Humble opinion - Babylock was the 1st company to offer sergers to the masses - easiest to use. Like prev commenter, I bought a high-end Viking serger & after much tribulation, finally learned to thread it for SIMPLE stitches. But need more lessons for chain & cover stitch. Avoid Singer if you can.
I don't think I'd go with anything Singer, they aren't of the quality they use to be. You might if you are able to, just go and look around at the different dealers in your area. Try all that is available to you in store and then decide.
I have a Janome and have had it 20 plus years. A real work horse. Never a problem.
Saying that if I had to replace it I would be looking to see if I could afford a self threading model. My eyes play up at times and threading black can be an issue at times.
Check them out at a store where they will let you thread them up before you make your decision.
If looked after it will be with you for years.
I have never had mine serviced just give it a good clean and use the vacuum to suck out the fluff it makes.
I get mine 4 years ago. Great investment. It does the same stitches that the expensive viking serger except the digital screen. The auto tension is one of the best features. Easy to threat after you practice a little. That is what everybody should do with the serger at first. I cut my threat and re threat it until I fill confident. Then from here To The Moon...Be creative you will love it. Comes with DVD and there instructions in Singer website.
I hate to be a bubble burster...but these days, I wouldn't buy Singer anything...I would say if you wanted a reasonably priced serger...look for a Baby Lock or Brother...or even a Janome...my Janome serger went 27 years before I had to replace it...and it was only ever serviced once by the dealer...
