Here is link to one almost identical to what you are looking for and if you look down the page a bit she gives the free pattern for the block, which I think you could modify the center very easily to make it just like what you want.
Now this looks the easiest. Paper piecing gives such crisp corners, and since the bird is on the diagonal, this would be great. The other parts are just regular squares and triangles. I have book marked it for myself!
I drew something similar in Embird Studio. You can easily draw it on inch graph paper. If you make it 12" square (as I did here) there are a few points on 1/2" and 1/4" lines denoted by the light blue lines.
