I wonder what your plans were for bringing in the New Year? Did you go out or stay in? Did you or do you even have a ball drop on the tv? Do you have any traditions for bringing in the new year? I almost made it till midnight but I had to call it a night before that. Hubs & I cuddled up on the couch to watch the ball drop, flicking between the Niagara Falls Drop & the New York Drop. Both had great shows going on. Have any of you ever been in those crowds to watch the ball drop live? I would love to know traditions that you & yours share to bring in the New Year.

Went to my youngest sons and went to church with them. The Church showed the movie "Left Behind" with Nicholas Cage. Then had fireworks and a pancake breakfast. We got home about 1:30, latest we had been up in many years.

Mobile, AL has a Moon Pie drop (the cookie they throw in the Mardi Gras parades) and somewhere up the eastern short they were showing on tv had a crab drop!

My hubby cooked a traditional southern New Year's meal, much of which I don't eat - pork roast, collards (green for money coming into your hands), black-eyed peas (luck) and corn bread because, well, because it's corn bread! We're not drinkers, so it was an early evening here, just before midnight I gave up and went on to sleep. I knew it was midnight by the fireworks.

Not sure what the 'ball drop' is as I am in the UK. Last night my husband went to bed early as he usually does and at 11pm I went to my daughters which is about 2km away. I let the new year in with her and her husband and then about 12.30 went back ho

the ball drop is a special television show that has live entertainment with many famous entertainers like Keith Urban , Katy Perry & so many more they perform live outdoors for thousands of fans & it is broadcast for North America to watch or be there. When it gets close to the midnight hour they continuously count the time down & there is a big ball that drops with the clock & they have fireworks & it is quite a show.

there is a ball drop countdown in New York City & there is one in Niagara Falls Canada

It was miserable cold last night with lots of sleet and ice so i stayed in. The city practically shuts down when we have any type of frozen weather. It's still bad today and the newscasters asked everyone to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. I shall take their advice

Since my 49 yr old was a 6 mo old we have gotten together with friends & family to play cards, eat left over & watch the ball drop. All of my mom's friends (as well as mom & dad) are gone now, but we still do the same!! One time our youngest missed it as he was on a mission trip out of country; this yr. our oldest wasn't able to get off work to come from VA. But we made sure to call him at midnight! Our 3 yr old made it til midnight, but Carrie (the almost 9 mo old) just couldn't make it! She was so sound asleep when Michael put her in the car seat & then took her out at home, she didn't move! A good family time & one of our traditions.

Every year we wait on 31.12 (Silvester) together with two other couples for the New Year. First we eat together fondue or other delicios things, then we play every year the same: We wrap things, we donĀ“t need in nice paper and decorate it at home, may be one couple has two small packets another 3 or 4. Then we throw dice for the packets. Which has 6 can take one. If all packets have an owner it is not the end, then everybody which has a 6 can take away one wraped packet from an other.
Only the giver knows whats in. This is going about 30 minuts than one after the other unwraped a packet to see what is in it. Sometimes you can use it sometimes it is for the garbage. We have allways a lot of fun. This year I got a calendar for 2015, a candle and a shaker.
About 15 minuts befor new year we switch on the TV for the countdown. Mostly we sit after together until 2.00 in the morning.

I do like the sound of the way that you celebrate

This sounds similar to the Dirty Santa game. I guess its called dirty because after you get a gift, its kind of dirty for someone to take it from you, but lots of fun and laughs. It is usually a nice gift, something you may would like yourself. My daughter bought this nice heavy picture frame for her gift, and hoped she ended up with her own gift. It was their office party. She could have 'stole' it back but she didn't have the heart, as the one that got it really wanted to keep it. She liked what she got though and she knows where to buy the frame again, if she decides she does want it. Oh, she ended up with 2 beautiful scarves from her boss, who played the game with them.

I spent evening sewing as usual and my husband in bed sleeping. Same tradition every year. I've never been to New York so never saw ball drop (just on television). Happy New Year to you and your family, may it be a good year for you all. Juanita

I don't think I would do very well being outside in that freezing cold & those crowds would be way too much for me to take. Watching on tv is just fine with me too. Must have been exciting for those that were out in it though. Our oldest & her hubs have gone to the Niagara Falls twice now & they love it

gerryb by gerryb 01 Jan 2015

Me either! The cold I MAY be able to take...but not that huge crowd! Watch it on TV!
