I've used quite a lot of brands, including Brildor. I sent the manufacturer (in Spain) an email about shipping as in the past they did not ship to the Netherlands. Got there answer today: they ship both to the UK and the Netherlands now. I give you a link to the Polyester, costs €1,69. The rayon/polyamide is even cheaper at €1.12 for the 1000m cones it is really worth looking at the shipping costs. And the 5000m are comparibly cheaper. And as it is EU there are no custom duties. My Brother 190D loves it, and the Marathon polyester and Madeira rayon.
In the beginning I bought some Coats & Clark embroidery thread because it was inexpensive....and it is awful!!!! Cheap is not always good when it comes to thread. And it's hardly even good to use for regular sewing.
Polyester is good for anything being washed a lot like kids clothes or like towels needing bleach. Rayon has a beautiful sheen but doesn't hold up as well and definitely NO bleach. I have used Robison Anton rayon (as that is what my dealer sells) and Madiera and Sulky with good results. My local JoAnn fabric store sells sulky and almost always has a 40% off coupon...which I use on a spool of thread almost every month. And they frequently run 50% off sales on all thread...a great time to buy! Watch the sales. Pick a small spool (if you can) of a good basic color in each brand and try it out. Good luck.
I SEW agree about Coats!!!!!!!!!!! And Sulky and Joann!!!! So glad others have shared their ideas. Cuties are REALLY great people. God bless y"all!!!!!!!
i Have had a lot of trouble with the sulky metallics as well. for that i have found that i go to the sewing shop ( an hour each way) and get the Superior metallic, and i have to use the metallics needle. I still have trouble, but at least it works mostly.
Floriani is good but not cheap, and i can't use the 2-color twisted threads, they just jam up the machine, so that was a huge waste of $
My janomes LOVE cheap serger thread!? its weird but true, especially when i put it in the bobbin. this is great for lace ornaments and stuff...but bulky on shirts. i have tried adjusting the bobbin tension. I wish that it would love bobbin thread. any thoughts?
I have 3 Brother embroidery machines----low level machines----I use mainly Sulky and Floriani threads-----Floriani poly threads can be bleached and do not lose their color----Floriani is CONSISTENTLY good quality thread---I have not compared prices---I just like Floriani because I have had good luck with it---One brand I will NOT use----Coats--it shreds, splits, loses color when bleached, etc---others may or may not have similar experience as I have had---but I LOVE FLORIANI threads--God bless Y'all.
Gosh, I've never heard of Moon thread. I use several brands of thread. Which thread I use depends on what color I need. I always buy a couple of spools from a brand I haven't tried so that I can check that it works well with my machine. My machine hates some brands of threads, and sometimes doesn't like just one color of thread in a brand. I love Madiera and Sulky, but I use a lot of Isacord because I don't have to drive so far to find a store that carries Madiera. Sulky is close by, but the color range is as large as other brands. Isacord is poly and sometimes I like to use poly for things that will be washed a lot. Madiera has both poly and rayon. I've just tried Madiera poly and like it a lot. Prices between threads can vary a lot so it pays to shop around. Some places online have a flat shipping rate so if you buy more than just one spool, the price can really work out to be pretty low overall.
Hi, Jean! I use Metro thread in both my Brother machine and 15 needle Happy machine. I use the polyester kind of thread mostly, and also pre-wound bobbins in both with no issues. Though Madiera and Marathon threads are touted highly, I find them rather expensive. Metro thread is of good quality and much less expensive.
Hugs, Angel
Metro is not available in Europe and buying it on line it costs more than3 times as much after shipping costs and import duties.
i have a brother too and use Fufu which runs perfectly and is not too expensive.
I just love Marathon threads and have had no issues with the quality or price
I have many brands. Fortunately . my machine will stitch the cheaper threads as well as the expensive ones and I have many rayon spools which I dearly love. My advice to you is not to buy a large quantity on any thread until you try a sampling and see how they work with your machine. Kay
All of my machines are Babylock machines and I have always used Madiera thread. I have had no issues ever with this thread. I get both the 1,100 meter and 5,000 meter cones from from Allstitch which is located in Baltimore Maryland in the US. I know you would have to pay Duty on anything you purchase from the US so I don't know if this helps. Best wishes on a successful solution to your search.
I use mainly Marathon and I also have a Brother Machine
I use mostly Metro Thead...it is polyester has a very high sheen and is extremely well priced...I have a Baby Lock Ellisimo and have no problems with it...I have all of the colors in the 5,000 meter cones and the balance of the colors in the smaller 1,100 meter cones...I also use their pre-wound bobbins...a steal..and one of the few who supply the Class 15A plastic bobbins...I have also used their stabilizers. They have added the Sigma brand now..but I haven't tried it..not sure what the difference is...
I have 2 brothers and a babylock ellegante and metro thread is all i use my machines love it and it doesn't ball up in them
I don't think I have seen Metro thread over here in UK. I mostly use Madeira rayon but have also used Vital Link and Marathon. I did find that some of the the polyester thread spiralled off of small reels. When I first bought my Pfaff I used ordinary sewing thread and practised on my hand towels! I also bought some new and half used cones on Ebay. The other important item is the needle! Mo
