unless they are a pair that you cherish then forget it and go buy a new pair as the alteration is not for amatures to do and even an expert seamstress would have a problem or two If you must go ahead the why not make a sttment and buy contrasting fabris to lengthen the top area and then place a band of the contrasting fabric around the leg hem. This way yuou will make a total fashion statment and can have fun too

Hi Zinobia. It can be done but you will need more fabric to add to the current crotch area so unless you have matching fabric it might be a waste of time and effort on your part.
If you look at the diagrams below, the one on the right, where the X <--> 18 is, that is where you need to add more fabric (just like it shows in the diagram) to both centre back crotch areas
It probably wouldn't hurt to add a lesser amount of fabric to the corresponding crotch on the centre front pieces and perhaps even at the waistline at the centre back shown on here as 16.
(Ignore the centre back and waistline angles shown in red they don't apply to you, unless your article looks like that. This was the quickest pattern image I could locate to help you)

So what will happen you will need to unpick the centre back and the centre front, and part way down the inside leg seams, until you can lay them flat enough to see how much fabric you need to add.
You may even need to unstitch the waistband (if there is one), at centre back and front though that depends on your sewing skills.

I hope this helps. hugs n roses, Meganne

Thank you very very much Meganne. That is such a wonderful and simple explaination. I also thought so from my self support altering knowledge. But no I don't have extra fabric nor am I good at clean sewing if I open up bands. So I think I will have to drop the idea. Once again a warm heartfelt thank you. Regards and love.
