Hello Cuties,

I have embird and want to know how to digitize FSL. I know how to do it from a purchased pattern, but I want to create my own. Is there a tutorial out there to explain? I have Carolyn's digitizing studio tutorial, so understand applique, etc.

Thank you, Kenda

Hi

I also have Embird and loves it. I found the following site which sells video tutorials on how to digitize the various types of FSL - I want to buy her videos, but are still saving for them!!

Hope this helps

They are for older versions of Embird, 2008 is the latest version she wrote for. There have been quite a few updates and upgrades since then. I'd go for more up-to-date ones.

The simplest form usually consists of three or four layers of a very open fill design, D=20 or more, on top of each other. In picture 1 I moved the layers to show it, the middle has 4 layers and shows the result.

The major part of the bookmark has 3 layers, angles 0, 60 and 120 degrees.

The design is usually done in satin stitch lines or columns. Other fills can be used - picture 3 -, open spaces created, etc.

It is important to use connection stitches throughout to avoid jumps, it should stitch out in one continuous line. Which is quite a challenge, not only for a beginner.

All done in Embird Studio.

Also, try the FSL from Sue Box Creations, they have freebies as well.

I agree with Sue, stitch out good FSL and watch how they trace and retrace and bind together the different sections. Good place to start is Tavernmaker and her designs are free, but read the rules, no sales. Try a couple of her angels - they are awesome to watch stitch.

Welcome to Cute!
My advice would be to study lots of FSL designs while they are stitching out. There are so many styles (bobbin lace, Battenburg lace, tatting etc) which will all require a different method of digitising. You can deduce the steps from watching stitchouts.
