I agree with Lillian (lbrow) re threads.
Before I bought my machine I learnt a valuable lesson by just watching the antics that a sewing shop owner went through to stitch out a large design on the then latest Bernina machine.
Machines have their own preferences as to what thread they like and will work with.
So buy a couple of colours in different brands if the first brand doesn't work so well, and keep testing them.
Listen to other embroiderers and not salespeople about what is a good thread. I was told to stay away from Q&A thread even thought the shop was trying to sell it to me.
I have Isacord, Mettler, Madiera, Hemingworth, Brother and Creek Creations.
My machine likes all of them except the Creek Creations threads so the reels of them just languish in the drawer.
I did have some other threads, but they have gone into the bin as I didn't like having a week of worry and multiple phone calls & trips to the service man because my machine jammed up while using them.
Watch how the thread comes off the reel as sometimes the knick in the reel that is supposed to hold the thread when not in use can cause problems (ie some of the Brother threads) I like the threads like Isacord and Madiera which have a locking mechanism which closes up and out of the way when stitching.
Thank you so much...some great suggestions you have given me!:)
Didnt know the wrong thread could actually spoil or jam our machines...better be very careful!
Like Spendlove I am in the UK so the only suggestion is that my machine dealer has told me to buy quality thread and not cheap stuff as the cheap stuff shreds and leaves bits in the machine. Last time I was in the shop he had about 6 machines that the owners were having problems with plus the thread the owners used. He stitched out on these machines with his quality thread - no problems and then with the stuff that the machine owners were having issues with and the machines caused him problems too. Machine embroidery is not a cheap hobby. I know of one UK Cutie who has bought Metro threads and says they are brilliant ( import duty had to be paid ontop of the purchase price) I use a variety of threads as I have bought in a number of places. You will find a thread that suits your machine and pocket and by asking here have had some great advice
You have lots of suggestions here and here on Cute through all the years I see so many machines of the same brand that each sew different makes of thread. My advice to you is try different kinds 'till you find the one your machine likes the best. Don't buy a lot of a brand you have never used and then find out "oh my machine doesn't like this one. Seems each machine has a mind of it's own (lol) it's funny but you are going to find that out. My very best to you/Lillian
For stabilizer I use world weidner, free shipping on all orders over $20.00 and they are in Oklahoma USA.
I guess it would depend quite a bit on the country you are in...I use Metro Threads, prewould bobbins and stabilizer from them...the pricing is fantastic and they offer a flat rate shipping option...that is my go to!
I prefer www.allstitch.net for my stablizers. Quick delivery, good customer service. Love Metro threads; vibrant colors and less expensive, than most!! I also enjoy shopping at www.kenssewingcenter.com for embroidery related items. A very reputable company in Alabama.
Hugs, Angel
I buy my stabilizer from Thread Art. They ship by mail right to my door in Canada, Cheap shipping cost. I once bought from AllBrands and the shipping to Canada was more than I purchased, so I don't buy there. I have been purchasing large cones of thread from my dealer in Hamilton. I also have bought thread off Ebay and love it.
i buy a 100 yard roll at Sewingmachine.com dirt cheap but don't know about shipping as I live nearby. (They have excellent prices on thread cones in Floriani and Isacord also) I think thread preferences may be model specific, not just brand specific. My Janome 350e stitches like a dream on Robison Anton rayon, the recommendation of the mechanic who services my machine. This is what I mainly use and I have built up a collection of most of the R-A colors. I also use bits of other pretty colors from Madeira (NOT their metallics), Mettler and Isacord. Isacord stitches fine, but seems slightly thinner for coverage and a touch duller. Floriani runs fine, but does not consort well with other brands in your finished product because of the extreme shine.
Ok I will check all those...thank you for the suggestions! :)
I too want to use it on my janome mc350e!
I use poly threads (Madiera brand) with no issues in my Babylock machines. I buy both my threads and my stabilizers from Allstitch which is a USA company located in Baltimore. Md. There is a shipping charge unless you order $150 worth of products. And that is easy to do. They offer all kinds of embroidery supplies including hoops for machines and even blanks. Sorry, I never remember the full website address, but if you Google allstitch, you will find them. I hope you find what you need and want. BTE, I have used them exclusively for years and made many an order and have never been disappointed with their products or service.
Thanks ladies for the suggestions....i would prefer a US site!
Actually the embroidery threads i have tried so far tend to shred....so the usual cotton or polyester threads work better for me so far!
Depends which country you are from, I guess. I have a Brother machine and know nothing about Janome. Hugs Marg
I use Marathon rayon threads on my Janome machine. They stitch beautifully although the needle threader doesn't like them. I think it would prefer polyester!
