This is a magic moment. A lot of overseas visitors to Australia seem to think kangaroo's hop down every street and there is a Koala in every tree (not so). It is very exciting for us to see our wildlife so close to our homes. Great picture. Hugs Marg
Marg, Funny you should say about Kangaroos hopping down every street. One day when I was in my local town/village I did see a Kangaroo hopping down the side street coming from the Hospital and into the main street.
Wow! That is so excellent! It would certainly make my day!
We have Kangaroo's visiting daily around sun rise & sunset they love fruit & damp grass we also have a bowl of water for all animals & birds. you need to be up early to see them as they will take off when they hear you
Yes I think she was startled as well. I enjoy watching various birds that visit my Bird Bath.
Lucky you having the camera nearby, usually by the time you get the camera the subject has moved or disappeared.
Possibly why she looks so startled. She let me take a couple of photos on my phone and then moved away.
She is definitely more welcome than a baboon would be! I too hope she continues to return and I am sure that she has learned over the years that you are not to be feared as you have continued to talk to her and caused her no harm. Even though we live in a small rural town in coastal Southern Oregon the most we generally see are deer who love our fruit trees and occasionally racoons and very rarely small bear or even Elk if you are out driving and happen to see them. There is other wildlife but they generally are never seen, like the cougars which I hope never to see in our neighborhood. With your terrible drought she was likely looking for any sweet morsel for her and her joey. Thanks for the wonderful photo.
I have been checking same time each evening but she hasn't come back while I have been looking.
A great visitor Lynn and one I am not likely to see in my garden as if I did it would have escaped from the zoo. You are growing tasty food?
There are many Kangaroos around my area but I think this Kangaroo regards my place as her safe Haven.
What a precious picture Lynn! Isn't our wildlife fantastic? At our friend's John and Deirdre's place in the Hunter Valley there are stacks of Wallabies (small version of the Kangaroo for our overseas Cuties) who come and visit at dawn and dusk. She is really a stunning looking specimen. Hope she comes back for another visit. Our baby Kookaburra flew the nest this morning and is now out the back with the parents. Love Chris
Chris, If this is the same Lady then I have been seeing her off and on for maybe the past 6 years. Maybe she didn't have a joey last year and this is why she didn't come here to show me.
A very lucky mumma to find a good home to graze at and lucky you being there at the right time. Marian
Wish she could tell me if she is the same one who visits each year. When I drive in with the car she just lies there. I stop the car and talk to her so I guess she knows the car as well by now.
yes they get to know your car but not cars that visit less than a month. Look for a marking that you can remember & see easily
Oh you have such neat animals over your way! How long does the baby live in the pouch? Thanks for sharing.
Think it is ready to come out now but still not brave enough to stay out. Think I read somewhere they are 9 months old before they stay out of the Pouch. Possibly by this time Mother already has another on the way.
It is lovely to see the animals that come sailing over the fence. : -)
He joey must be almost full grown as her pouch is hanging down a long way.
No kangaroos here, but I did see a Racing Pigeon the other day. It stayed for a quick break on our side fence.
A moment after this photo she stood up but again I was not ready. I opened the gates and she was off. Didn't like the noise of the Gate.
Great to get photos like this. Thanks for sharing. Hugs
Even living in Australia you do not see that very often. Lucky you
this is just one of the very special things I love about living in Australia, great photo
Thank You. Because of our Dry Summer they are looking for some sweet grass. I had been out earlier pulling up some of this grass to feed my old sheep.
i have never seen a real one thanks for the great pic hugs Carolyn
You must not be from Florida! LOL. What a wonderful treat!!
This is a pleasant surprise!! Lovely, thank you very much for sharing!
Great picture.
Thank You. Have a feeling this is the one who comes here often as she doesn't seem to be frightened of me as I talk to her.
Beautiful! I think he/she was hoping for a dinner invitation. Or checking out to see what gourmet items were growing in your garden.
It was a female as she had a Joey in her pouch. When I noticed them I saw the Joey scramble back into the pouch.
What a wonderful moment for you. Are they very dangerous when confronted? The only things we get in the garden occasionally are baboons. I am terrified of them.......
Had one here a few years ago that frightened me. I tried to scare him away by throwing small empty plastic garden pots and all he wanted to do was play with them. Eventually I rang a wild life person and she came around and we got him to leave.
Awesome visitor Lyn.
Must have been the day for surprises, I went to collect MIL from the nursing home this afternoon and as I got to the top of the steps I was startled by a Rosella sitting on top of a wheely bin right beside the bannister, I was within a foot of him and he didn't even fly away when I spoke to him! He was so beautiful but stupidly I never thought to get a photo. It was such a special moment as I bet yours was too. Isn't nature wonderful!
hugs n love, Marg
There was a better photo if only I didn't have to move to get it. Like you I didn't get that photo. Not sure if this is the same Kangaroo who lives in my place, but even though you can't see it she has a Joey in her pouch.
It is so special when wildlife comes calling. I have a friend at Wingham (North Coast NSW) who has a Kookaburra who comes calling on her every day, but only since her husband passed away. She swears it is her hubby's spirit as he lands right beside her and makes little noises like he is talking to her. It is so awesome.
