Read below that you still have Gregory. We accidentally taught our galah to only go to the toilet in her cage. There were 3 of us. Poor Cocky, if she made a mess on someone. One person would remove her and place her back in the cage after all three of us had tut tutted at her for being a naughty girl. We had her from when I was about 8 or 9. By the time I was a teenager she was out of the cage every day I was home. Either riding on my shoulder or head with a cat in my arms and the dog at my side. She went inside and outside with me and never made a mess on anyone. When my parents retired she would have days out of the cage while Mum or Dad hand weeded. She would weed the garden too.
I took her after my parents went into an Aged Care place and she used to help me by keeping me company as I weeded. She laid her first egg at 30 years of age. But as she was alone they were all infertile.
I will never forget the day that the blue tongue lizards took a shortcut through her cage. The noise! Didn't put her cage in that spot again as it turned out to be the blue tongues path across my vegie garden. We were in a new house and I was trying to find a good spot to place her cage for the days when I was at work. My kids were teenagers then - which shows that the galahs really do live a long time.
Our pets give us such wonderful memories.
What a great story. My poor Gregory doesn't come out of his cage but does spend a lot of time outside on good days. If I go out he is always happy to see me come home.
I am sorry to hear about your sheep. you have a nice view to look at. the Roos are fun. Thank you for showing us.
Hugs Pam.
They were both in my Front yard again today. Joey is a little frightened but Mother says, "Oh it is only you again". They talk to Kangaroos by making a noise like when something goes wrong and people say you tut with your mouth. This is how I talk to them as I am walking past.
Lyn, what a lovely place you have - so sorry for the passing of your sheep. Please locate me via Facebook if you would like to catch up. Hugs, Shirlene
Sorry about Mary, maybe you can teach the Roo's to eat your scraps and some of the cuttings. Good luck with teaching Gregory to talk remember only "good words" lol
For all of those Cuties outside Australia this is a Yucca. When we had a lot of sheep they almost destroyed ours but as you can see mine in the paddock is on its way back. The second is a picture of A Galah.
Hi Lyn, sorry about your poor old sheep. I used to have a Yucca. Pretty, but spikey and they take up a lot of room. Keep getting more stems growing outwards. I love how the flowers are little individual 'bells'.
As you can see I have plenty of room, but I must try to get one growing in a large Pot. Seems strange without my sheep.
You have a lovely view from your back yard, Lyn! Thanks for showing us. So sorry for the loss of your sheep.
Thank You, but this is not my back yard but part of my front yard. My boundary is just past the trees where you can see the line if Agapanthus in behind the trees in the distance. I have 8 acres.
I had no idea you had a sheep as a pet. Usually sheep are not considered pets. I have been thinking about getting hens and eating them as winter draws near. I am not sure if I can do it. My grandmother did it. and more! What did you do with the wool? I am so sorry she's gone and think how fortunate you had her. The reason the joey is not in her pouch is because it is too big! You have a gorgeous landscape.
We moved to this place 29 years ago and bought sheep straight away. We ended up with only two then a visiting dog from down the back killed one so this is why Mary came up closer to the house. People across the road had their shearer shear her and then he kept the wool.
So sorry you lost your sheep, these animals of ours sure become entangled in our hearts and lives........love your joey's.....
I realise how much of a garbage she was. I will miss not giving her vegetable scraps and banana skins etc. She gave me fertilizer in place of the scraps.
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your four legged family member.....it is always so hard to say good bye. I wish I could see such a wonderful sight outside my back door. It is awesome!
So sorry that you pet sheep has passed away. We become so attached to our little animals don't we! Thank you for posting the photo of the kangaroo and her joey. How exciting seeing wildlife in one's own back yard!
The only Pet I have now is a Galah (Australian Bird) called Gregrory who is learning to talk.
Sorry for the loss of your pet sheep. This is a great picture of a mother and her joey.
SO sorry you lost your pet. It is hard to lose any pet... Suzanne
I'm sorry, Lyn. We do grow fond of our pets, don't we?
Love the pictures of the Kangaroos in your garden. What a treat.
Saying Goodbye to what we love be it human or pet is hard Lyn. I am sorry for your loss but looks like you are having some lively company to help fill the gap. Love your pic. of the Roos/Lillian
Thank You Lillian. Will try to get a better Picture as The Joey might not stay for too long.
It's so hard to have to say good bye to a beloved pet. Hopefully your new family will help you eat the scraps and pruning bits. They are a lovely family and very photogenic. I hope they pose for more pictures.
I have found that Kangaroos do love Roses, but not when I want them to be pruned.
Don't your roses have many thorns on them? I know that the newer varieties don't.
Sorry about the loss of your sheep.
Thank you for sharing the pic of your backyard "guests".
Cindy
The loss of a pet is so very difficult, we forgot how much they were in our lives everyday.
Looks like you now have a new pet and a family to boot. Now you must watch over them in the terrible heat you are having. I read somewhere rabbits can die in extreme heat since they have no method to cool them selves down, is that the same for Kangaroos?
sorry your pet sheep passed away, we always miss the ones and pets we loved.... The kangaroo family is lovely.
Actually she wasn't really a pet until she lost her so called Brother and I brought her up closer to the house and then I started to spoil her.
How wonderful to have had a pet sheep. I am so sorry that she has passed away. Our pets always worm their way to our hearts. Just love the picture of the kangaroos
I sheep was really spoilt. She had a better life than the sheep on sheep stations.
This is a great photo Lyn, not everyone can say they have a kangaroo at their back door. Sorry to hear about your pet sheep. The Joey is quite large now and I guess had to 'leave home' to make room for the next one. hugs Marg
Oh! Lyn, how gorgeous. You certainly have lovely bush surroundings around your place. I know how hot it's been in Adelaide I've been watching the weather map very closely. Hope you will be alright now that your pet sheep has passed, love Chris
Chris, I am missing her. If I went to the Loo during the night I heard her give a soft call as if to say Hello.
Our pets add so much to our lives without ever speaking, just being with us.
Only have a bird now. They live for many many years so have told the young ones in the family that they might end up with him as he (Gregory) is only 2 years old.
