I have used several brands throughout the years, and feel that Metro threads are so vibrant in colors and most reasonably priced. I use polyester, rather than rayon and its potential to fade through washings. I absolutely love NEBS pre-wound (clear sided plastic) bobbins for my Brother machine; have used them from day one, rather than winding my own (except, on occasion I ran out of NEBS). I saved a few empty NEBS bobbins, just in case! LOL
I purchase most of my stabilizers from www.allstitch.net; reasonable prices and quick delivery. Threads online from www.metro.com.

Hi, I just bought a bunch of Isacord thread from Discount Supplies online. That is what I usually use. I also wanted to try Mettler so I got one. But I can not figure out how to take the end pieces off the little spool. Can some one help me out. It has to twist or pop off but I can't seem to do it and I do not want to ruin the spool. Looking at it right now I bet you just punch a hole in each end - am I right?
I use a mixture of all brands and don't have a problem with any ot them. Sometimes you will need to adjust the tensions slightly but don't be afraid to try any of them.
I use Isocord and Medeira. Poly thread. They have a wonderful sheen and work so well. Poly hold up to washings and does not fade where as Rayon does fade over time or bleaching... Suzanne
Hmmm so I guess better stick to poly for stuff that get washed a lot! :)
Thanks a lot for the suggestions!
I'm a Madiera girl because that is what I have always used and figure if it works , why change. I like poly because it is strong and colorfast and in Madeira I have a choice of almost 500 shades. I also like the 5,000 meter cones because they do last so long. I buy most of my embroidery supplies from WWW.allstitch.net which is found in Maryland USA. I hope you do find what you are looking for.
I generally use polyester thread (from ThreadArt) because it is colorfast. I have attached a link to a good tutorial about threads and their uses published by Threads Magazine.
If you are looking to purchase a brand that you haven't tried before, just buy one spool to see how it works on your machine. Sometimes just a single color in a thread line is disliked by my machine. Go figure. My machine hates Floriani. Does well with all other brands, so I purchase according to the color I want. I have a lot of Isacord polyester, but it has less shine than other threads which I like for a lot of things. I love both the rayon and poly in Robison Anton, and I drool over Madeira rayons.
I use Floriani----it always works well----put on white towels and it can be BLEACHED and does not lose its color!!!!! I use Sulky on occasion---overall it works well--cannot testify as to if it bleaches or not--have had success with Madeira and Robison-Anton---also cannot attest to their bleachability---if I had my preference it would be Floriani--good luck and God bless you.
I'm a Metro girl...polyester 5000m cones and prewould bobbins...
5000m cones....those must b huge :)
Thanks for sharing. ...these which I bought are just 1050 yards!
My Janome 350 does not like polyester. I have another machine also and I have run both poly and rayon on it. The highest shine thread is Floriani , which is a polyester. I like Robison Anton (rayon), but also use Madeira (beautiful colors), Sulky, and others. If you are rich, use Floriani for metallic, as it is encased in ?? (maybe mylar) and stitches well. Otherwise, if not rich, try all of the tricks suggested on this site, such as using a thread stand, soda straws, spool upside down, etc. to make it unkink. If you want to try the Robison-Anton, PM me, I have an inexpensive source.
Oh those are some details I didnt know. ..thank you!
Well I too have janome mc350e and surprisingly polyester is working fine for me :)
See in the pic just bought those today!!!
