Suzanne, external hard drives DO fail! I had one for two months, and then it quit working. I took it to Best Buy to copy off my designs and some personal stuff, but they said they would have to send it to the manufacturer. As I did not want personal info sent to the "unknown", I chose to destroy this external device myself. As I had most of my designs on CDs, my heart was not ultimately devastated. I did purchase another inexpensive hard drive especially to have a backup of photos and embroidery designs, I always keep a copy of my embroidery designs on CDs, just "in case"!!
Hugs, Angel
So glad you are back. Yes, the reminder to back up is the most important thing. I, too have lost so much until DH bought me 2 back up systems.
Yippeee and thanks Dave for all of your hours of work. Yes, multiple backups and still pray.
Yep I agree there has to be a better way to back up easier. But I have not found one yet....
Suzanne
So glad that you did not loose any of your designs, just the time to get everything loaded back up and organized along with the new external hard drives. Hope those who have not already heeded this warning, I hope that this time they will, before they learn this lesson the hard way! Hope you have a great day!
The external HD is a good idea but just like your computer HD will fail eventually also. So best have multiple back- ups like another external and CD's or DVD's - ask me how I know! Yep my external I was organizing on went bad. Well I have everything on CD's or DVD's but unfortunately not in order except by monts and year so finding stuff is difficult. Have two new externals now and regular back up to one and still see to CD or DVD and use the second external for bracing up my first external but only do that monthly. There must be a better way to keep everything in order and not loose them!
Excellent advice!
Computers do not always give warning when they decide to give up.
