any ideas where i could try to buy some used software?

There are 2 yahoo groups where you can advertise sewing/embroidery related items either for sale or in search of. They are SewItsForSale and
SewingStuff4Sale. These groups just put you in contact. You do your negotiating off list. I have both bought and sold through these groups with no problems. Most sellers want to use Paypal so pretty safe. Good luck. Hugs. Nan W

The lady I purchasd my digitizer pro from changed to another brand.
I just kept my eyes out on my local version of Craigslist and found one in just a couple of months for a bargain price. Someone else was selling the same version for $500 more than I bought mine for and it still has not sold. keep on looking and you will find a bargain. When I can afford I will be able to upgrade mine to the latest version and it will still have cost less than half of the price of the new version.
I have also since learned that you can use other brand program's different to your machine as long as you have a way to save or convert to your machines format.

Most people upgrade their software, which overwrites the earlier version. Some give up digitising as they find it far more difficult then expected or no longer embroider, and that way you might find a bargain somewhere.
But beware, older software may not run on the newer Windows versions.And make sure the seller gives you the necessary things like security dongles and installation codes.

When I installed Version 6 Bernina software it wiped out the version 4 dongle so that software became useless.
