Oh no, my machine is making a squeaking noise.

I was trying to do an ith project for my dd to give to school friends for Easter and my needle broke. In typical fashion it was started last minute.

I have replaced the needle, removed the bobbin case and cleaned everywhere I could get to. I am normally good at finding stray thread, but I am stumped. It is making a squeaky noise each time the hook goes around the bobbin. I am really hoping I can fix it myself as I can't take it into the shop for repair at the moment. I would really appreciate any advice.
Needless to say, due to this happening mid project I had to come up with another idea for dd to give her friends. I have shared it in the crafting section.

UPDATE

I removed the needle and plate. the bobbin case is scraping on the hook race as it moves around. When I remove the bobbin case there is no noise so I think the hook has been damaged or the bobbin case has or both. I have filed off a couple of places that looked to have burrs the noise is there but is much less so I think I am on the right track. Fortunately the timing seems to be fine. I will try and chat to a technician next week when they are back open.
Thank you all for your advice.

Sounds like a tiny piece of the broken needle is caught somewhere.

Hmmm, no needle and no thread and no bobbin...does it need a bit of oil somewhere...perhaps one of the moving parts by the bobbin case or other place?

Good thinking but it is doing this with no needle, top thread or bobbin thread in the machine.

Call the shop and ask them for suggestions as to how to fix it. It sounds like it may need a visit to the sewing machine doctor.

Have you checked the needle is in correctly as its easy not to get them just right?

Oh oh....well did you place the bobbin case properly??
Make sure the red marks are lined .....
Also make sure the needles is placed perfectly!

I think I will go and check them again and pull the bobbin case out. I am not game to embroider anything until I have it sorted. Thanks

Have you blown the dust & "fluff" that accumulates under the feed dog? Also, my hubby removed the far left cover (where the needle & light are) and there was a clump of dust on the inside). Just one word before you start disassembling the thing...................TAKE PICTURES of how it came apart. Cindy

That's a good idea Cindy. I haven't done that part in a while (usually every few months on machines I use often) I am quite familiar with that part of the machine as I have owned janomes forever. It hasn't changed much except now there is a screw fixing it closed! I take photos/video if I attempt anything I have not done before as I learnt that lesson the hard way! Thank you

I have a designer SE not a janome. Whenever everything starts not working right and I have already changed the needle and cleaned the bobbin area etc it has never failed to be a problem with a dust bunny or even a single thread getting caught in the compartment to the side of my bobbin area, once I open and clean that out all seems to work again without issues. Hope you can trace down just what is messing up your machine and hope it is a fix you are able to do so you do not have to take it for repair.
