Maggie, do you have Embird? If you do, you can also get the iconizer which is built in but has to be registered. It means that once it is up and running, all your designs show up as little pic rather than little JEF flowers. Then you can sort into files. I never thought of that, but was looking at sewiconz, but sounds like it would be cheaper to make my own files and use iconizer to show me the pics.

It costs about US$20 give or take, try looking at www.secretsof.com

Which translates to about $23AUD

You can download help on "HOWTO" organise your files here: link below:
I always rename designs to suit my own recall "triggers" and I use an Iconiser to view the designs from Windows Explorer (NOT to be confused with Internet Explorer) If you don't have Embird you can purchase SewIconz as Jasanne suggested.
This question has been asked many times and I suggest you also search this site for previous posts that may be helpful to you. Hugs n roses, M

Was it the little mouse minnie? I use embird, Have main folders like say ,cute Embroidery then have sub folders with lace, flowers, alphas, etc. I didn't use to do it this way 'till everyone wanted to know "where did the design come from? Used folders like Animals, then sub folders, dog, cat, monkey, get the picture, I know there r lots of ways & perhaps other cuties can give U better ideas. *4U

I file by the website I get the design from. I also use Sew Iconz which shows your designs as icons in windows. $20usd which is very reasonable for the convienience. I do have their sew what pro which means I can print out thumbnail pages of designs too, which I find useful. i hope someone's answers help you out. I think for everyone it is personal preference to what works for you. Good Luck :)

As you can see from the answers you don't need software to file your designs, just put them in the folders of your choice. You really have to think about a set-up that is handy in the long run. I go by site first, categories second. But what you need is a system to view them. AnntheGran has cataloguing software and there are others, which were mentioned in the past (alas before tagging). Hope someone knows an inexpensive one.

I use 4D Extra in the smae manner as Claude. The software allows you to maniulate designs to suite yourself. Think of design storage as a file cabinet. I use MY DESIGNS as the main storage area. Then example a folder for Angels, Animals, Alphabet, Bees, Birds and etc. Inside each folder you can have subfolders just like MPO described. 4D allows you to view the designs as pictures.

When I have downloaded many designs, I put them in "my designs1,2,3...",with my software 3D embroidery system (husqvarna designer1) and I print the pictures of all the designs of the catalog designs1,2,3...I put those pictures in exercise book 1,2,3...With each picture, it is written automatically the colours of the thread and the number of stitches of each colour, and the lengh of thread.I do not know if that is convenient for all the mark of machines

I have 3D as well, which is great as you can view your designs as pictures and make print-outs. How you name your files is personal preference I think. I do them by site first, then into categories.

Hi, Maggie. You don't need any programes to file your designs. What I have done is created a new folder called Designs. You can put this folder in My Documents. Then I create sub folders, eg flowers, dogs, cats, kids, people, misc. animals, etc. Then in those sub folders I create more folders , eg, in flowers, I have roses, daisies, tulips etc.If you don't know the name of a particular flower, just put it in a sub, sub folder called misc, flowers. In misc. animals I have hippos, horses, pigs etc.You may find that in some sub folders you do not need to create more folders. I have one just for cars, boats, kids stuff etc.Clear as mud?

Mud is clear maybe in SA yes I remember it is over there.how do you see what you have , can you put it in dig pro and bring up EMB file with pics

mpo14011 by mpo14011 22 Jun 2008

You have a customizer? If you open your customizer and click on easy edit, then click on file at the top left hand corner, then click on import design. a box should drop down. Go to the folder where you have your designs and double click on it.To see your designs click on the icons that show up. A little picture will show in the box at the top .This will also show you how long it takes to stitch out and how big it is.And how many stitches and the hoop size. If you don't want to go through customizer then you will have to click on each icon for the design to open up. There is a programe called SewIconz which is very cheap . That will show you a picture of all your designs.Just type in SewIconz in your browser. I think you even get a free trial.Let me know if you have trouble finding it and I will try and get the website for you tomorrow.

I am still working on organizing all my designs for easy finding and I'm only in the B's.I do not have any program for this,I just have a design folder with many many catogories and sub catagories.
