well i just learned something new... thanks for all this info..
On the Juki quilting machine that I use for my work sewing, I think it was put there to annoy me as it was catching on the D rings etc that I was trying to sew up close to. The sewing machine mechanic sawed it off for me when I asked if it was really necessary for it to be there :)
That is to keep the foot level like when you are trying to stitch over a seam in fabric or a large bump of fabric (making denim seams) You push and it locks the foot flat. You release it when you are finished...it is a very nice feature that I really like!
Thank you. I have never tried it and keep forgetting to ask what it was for. I have to try it out.
I just checked the Brother manual and the black button on the left side of the "J" foot (I think it's for regular sewing) is pushed in and held if you have thick fabric. As I said before, you can't find this information under "Feet", it's under "Sewing Basics." Give me strength. I need a piece of chocolate....
You are absolutely correct, I will join you with two pieces of chocolate, love this site such wonderful people
I think it to push when there is a fabric height difference .
That is a good possibility, thank you. I may have to phone my sewing shop to find out.
Thank you.
It releases the foot so you can change it easily! Of course, that info doesn't seem to be in the manual -- or else it's under some mysterious title. Our teacher told us, otherwise we wouldn't have had a clue either. lol
Just saw the other comment, and it isn't a screw. You just push it and the foot falls off.
Thank you, I will see what happens when I push it. I didn't know what to call it, so said it was a screw. The machine has a lever to release the feet, so don't know why it would have this on the zig zag foot only.
On my Janome it has a similar button at the back and it is to release the foot to replace the foot with another foot. Is this a screw?. Just push it in and see what happens. Hugs Marg
It is a Janome machine, but it has a separate lever to release the foot. I will push it and see what happens. Thank you.
