Bb Just want to say "Thank you" again, to each one of you who replied to my inquiry! I did decide on the snap source after two sites I ordered designs from that use snaps said they use the snap source ones. I also decided on them because they look like they will be the easiest for me to use.
Good wishes to you all!
I have not tried the Kam snaps so I can not compare the two. I do have the snap source snaps & in several different sizes and I did not have any issues getting them to work with the tool that they sell. I found it easy to use even with my memory and hand strength issues. I think out of 100's of snaps I may have messed up 1 or 2 when I was first using it and was because I had been trying to go quicker than I should have, and did not look to make sure the snap was in the correct position when I put the other piece of the tool on it and then hammered it and it was a bit off centered but was able to remove and use a new part so the project was not ruined, just one side of a snap. Live and learn. Since it seems several have differing opinions I would try to see if someone in your area would have one to try for you, and try them both out before making your decision. Just a thought since you really do not want to end up ordering something you will not be able get good use of. Pam
Well, I have the Kam Snaps and their pliers...However, they are still in the bag...for about a year and a half now...I keep saying I need to get them out and get going...and yet another day passes...
My hands are not strong either and i LOVE LOVE LOVE Kam Snaps. Just hated snaps before I started using them. I order the size 20 and use them on wallets, purses, snap tabs, sani holders, etc. I got mine from I Love Big Buttons but they are readily available other places too - like Amazon. The weekend I bought the best deal was Big Buttons.
If you're using them for wallets or purses, I recommend magnetic snaps. I have used them on the wallets I just made, and have used them on the top of totes and purses/hand bags, when I don't use a zipper. They are very easy to apply, especially if you have trouble with your hands. My husband applies my gripper snaps, like you are talking about, because I can't either. I do use the gripper and will use the Kam ones too, as I do have little ones to sew for.
Thank you for your suggestions, toogie. Mostly I was interested in the type snap that one would use say on the tab of a book cover to hold it closed or the flap of a small change style purse to hold it closed. But I will keep the magnetic ones in mine for other things!
I agree wholeheartedly with Laura! the snaps of old were quite difficult for me & I had many snaffoos! I love the Kam Snaps & use the 20's as well & I have had zero issues with them. I have made adult bibs using them & my mother-in-law says they are fantastic & so easy my sister-in-law can do it up herself. I love them for wallets & many other things too. I have a wallet that I use quite a bit & it is holding up much better then the Velcro I had on it before. Best Of Luck...~hugs~
This is just my humble opinion ... I always had trouble with the old Dritz set and I tried Snap Source too (with problems). But, now, I am sold on Kamsnaps. Yes, you still use pliers - but, they are so much easier to use than the Dritz type. I do make sure that I buy the long pronged snaps (size 20, I believe). My "snaffooos" so to speak have been few - and the snap on my new wallet I made still seems very strong. I use them on baby bibs, wallets, I put them on one of my duvet covers that had only ties before. From now on - they are my goto snaps. Good luck!! Hugs, Laura*
