I am making an embroidered pillow case with a zipper @ the back & in the middle so if the pillow form I made is 16x16 how much bigger should the case be? A 1/4inch seam allowance is for quilting what is it for this? I did not wash my fabric before I stitched it out either, just in case this matters. (Shrinkage) Thanks for any help given..

since I am putting the zipper in the middle of the back should it be smaller then the pillow or the same size?

It doesn't matter as long as you can stuff the pillow form inside.

I always cut 1 inch allowance. The pillow form is puffy, not flat, so it takes more room than just the standard seam allowance of 5/8" in regular sewing. The two pieces for the back will be 17x 9. That should cover where you turn under for the zipper and the 1" allowance. Just to be sure, make the back with the zipper inserted and then measure it to be the same as your front piece.

ok so the front will be cut into a 17x17 square if my backs are equal. then I stitch with a 1inch seam allowance to attach the zipper. Thanks Jerrilyn I think I have it now

Hi Lor...I am not sure Jerrilyn was saying you needed to sew a 1" seam allowance..I think she was saying that you will need two pieces of fabric for the back of the pillow...each one will need to be 17 x 9...the zipper will go in the middle, across the 17" width...perhaps I have misunderstood what you were saying above...
