Why does it have pes v1 pes v4 of the same design, when a zip file opens, along with all the other formats? What is the difference in the design? I have a Brother pes format, which is right for me

When you down load a design why do some have two pes formats,do I need to download both?

I'm new to machine emb. my machine does PES. When I try to download a pattern I get a msg that it is not recognized. What am I doing wrong.
