I have put this here as its personal to me. Please can anyone help or ideas? I use a floppy disc drive to put embroidery designs on my Brother Galaxie 3000. In the last few months I have had a problem which is that my laptop which is Windows 8 stops reading/accepting that there is a external floppy disk drive. When one goes through the computer it says that there are 2. My son in law has removed and reloaded all to my laptop. Last time I wrote on a large label which is ontop of the external floppy disc drive that I was not to remove it from my laptop without going through the procedure of correctly removing it. BUT a few days ago it stopped working again. Without the disc drive working I cant get my designs to the machine. The memory card reader needs attention and will get to the dealer sometime soon so that's not a option. I am using PE 8 if that adds any extra info. Also I am not sure if the problem occurs when I run a full Norton software update. Thanks for reading and all help will be very gratefully accepted

It sounds like a driver problem. The driver it needs may be corrupted. It is possible that Norton could be causing issues with the driver.
Do you get any error messages?

I realized I wrote something many may not understand. Everything on a computer you can touch needs a driver. If you have the right drivers, all works well. If you do not then your computer will have issues. It may even "crash" with a Blue Screen. If the driver (which comes in software) is corrupt, the computer component will not work correctly/consistently.

I have not had it crash. One day I put the usb in and it doesn't work and its getting frustrating apart from annoying

It may not always cause a crash to have a driver issue.
Driver issues can be the difference between an adult driver accustomed to a car vs. a teenager just learning. The ones that cause crashes are the young children drivers. I hope that helps a bit.
I wish I could pop over to take care of it for you.

I am confused I too have windows 8 and find 'everything' does not agree with it from my old system of XP. I also have a Brother 4000D which I use a USB stick can you not transfer your designs this way? I only have PE 6 which I cant transfer either. I always contact Mr Lord at Oswaldtwistle he will give advice over the phone.

Gill thanks for your reply. My machine only works on floppies or the memory card. I have never contacted Lords for help as I usually contact my dealer. My son in law has removed and then added the floppy disk drive so I am up and running again. This time I have taken notes so I can sort myself out. I will contact Keith Lord and see if he has any suggestions. My soninlaw says when he has time he will go over my laptop and see what's going on.
