Just thought I would show you how far I have got. It is not quite the same as the original as I have decided to do the name Emma in appliqué. It is only going to be two hooping instead of three, so I am really pleased.<br /><br />
I do have a question. Should I finish each letter of Emma before going on to the next or should I embroider the placement line of all the letters, which would mean just cutting the appliqué fabric once. Just a little concerned about moving the hoop for each letter. Hope that makes sense.

You would have to adjust the stitching order to do it as one design, but it can be done IF you are doing it in a single fabric. Each letter has an outline stitch (to show you where the fabric needs to cover), then a tack down stitch (to hold it in place). At this point you would trim around the tack down stitch. The third stitch is the satin stitch or what ever finishing stitch is programmed. You also need to consider how closely each letter is to the next one and if you can cut around it easily or if it would be easier doing one at a time. If you are very comfortable adjusting stitch order and very comfortable with applique, go for it. If not very comfortable, I'd suggest you do a letter at a time. My opinion only.

Thank you Jerilyn. I have already changed the order of threads and can easily change them back again. I am going to have a trial run with the name just to see what it looks like. Do you normally use anything to hold the fabric down?

I don't use anything to hold it down when doing one fabric at a time, other than my fingers ( I know, dangerous). You could put a couple of pins on either side to keep it taunt if you wish or spritz it with temporary adhesive spray. (Or glue stick as Kim

I'm with Jerrilyn...if you are concerned about holding the fabric in place, you can use a Elmer's School Glue Stick...it won't gum up your needle...and it will wash out cleanly...won't stain your fabrics...I use Elmer's School Glue (liquid) and school glue sticks all the time. The Elmer's School Glue Stick is purple...I know, don't worry it dries clear...freaked me out the first time!

Thanks Kim. We do not get the glue stick you are talking about but we have other glue sticks. Just checked and the one I have is washable. Thank you for the tip
