Any tips on how I can mark black fleece. I have chalk and a chalk pencil. Both very messy. I would like to draw lines to help me place design and hoop. Thank you. Sarah

I'm with Sue...baste with white thread...or I do have a marking pen that draws with white lead or yellow lead...it's like a mechanical pencil that has several colors of lead for marking quilts...the JoAnn link below shows the Mechanical Pencil on the first row in the middle...and directly below is the felt tip white marker...

How I envy you being able to buy all these different marking pens. We do have the blue wash out ones, which I wouldn't be able to do without. I would love to be able to get the white washable one. I think that Sue's idea with the basting stitch is great

how about some light painters tape it is creme here and does not "glue" much on that fleece fabric but perhaps enough to mark it - could be called masking tape in us or uk

I use soap too. It ususally comes off with a damp cloth, or light brushing.

I thread a needle in a bright color that is easy to see and do a long basting stitch do not knot and leave a long tail. Thread is very easy to remove with tweazers.

I had to do this a week ago, and on the place where the bottom of the design ( logo) should come a put a piece of tape. When it was in the hoop and on the right spot ready to embroider, I removed the tape, and everything went well. The embroidery was straight and on the right spot without any marks.Perhaps this will help you too.

How about strips of tape. When you get the hoop done, just pull it off.

If you use WSS, I would put some on the top of the fleece and draw a line across the center and then up and down, this will give you your center point. When your done, it all washes away.
I usually use a square of WSS with adhesive, it helps to keep the fabric from stretching as well as lining up the design in the center.
