Here's my latest project. These are the fishing shirts the girls are wearing as swimsuit coverups. The customer needed all three in two days (I can only sew at night) and each one took 90 minutes to stitch. Don't think I charged enough!! These are done with 8Claws and a Paw's KKMonogram. I was pleased with the results.

Thanks. I used heavy weight tear away and I floated the shirt. I don't hoop very many items. Never have been vergy good at it. :0)

Thanks. I like the font, too. The customer wanted fuschia and coral. I told her all I had was hot pink and orange. Stopped at a garage sale on the way to work the next morning and spent $60 on embroidery thread - still in plastic wrap! This pink and the coral were two of the colors I got. Made the lady happy. Me too!

You really did an amazing job on the swim suit cover ups. Wow! 90 minutes for each one. I can believe that you did not charge enough :( Besides total stitching time there is prep time, machine usage, thread, stabilizer, etc. that many customers don't realize and, sadly, we fail to charge for. If you don't feel that you charged enough perhaps you should ask your customer not to disclose the price they paid to anyone. Explain to the customer that you did not realize the amount of time, etc., and, though you will honor the quote you gave them, that you could not do this type of project again without adjusting your fee accordingly. P.S. I like your flip flops/sandals in the photo, lol. I too manage to photograph my feet from time to time!

Thanks! Yes, I think of all of this, but this is mainly a hobby for me and sewing for my grands, so I'm OK with it as long as the requests are infrequent. You're right, I need to ask her not to advertise for me. :0) Lady was about to pick up the shirts so the pic was rushed. I definitely am NOT a photographer!

Thanks! I've done it both ways. I've done it through the netting, and also unstitched the little triangle label and restitched it. These shirts came from Bass Pro Shop (I think) and they actually had a velcro piece at the bottom of the flap, so it was really easy to hoop them. I had told the lady since she was in such a hurry, I would need to stitch through the netting and she was OK with that. But that was before I saw the shirt. It was even quicker to hoop it through one layer.

Are there 'rules'/guidelines as for how to choose letters?
Do you choose the monogram design depending on how many names the person has? Or do you e.g. use a 3-letter design even if the person has only one given and one sir name? And if you have 3 names, is it then always the middlename being the middle (and biggest) letter?

Thanks! Yes, there are guidelines for traditional monograms. Just google "monogram rules" or something similar. And rules are made to be broken, so there are a lot of newer looking ideas, too. The ones I did are first LAST middle name of teenagers - very traditional with last name being the bigger/middle letter.
