I went out to SFSC to pick up the design for their new mystery project and there on the home page was a gorgeous MERMAID!! Couldn't resist. I stitched her out on burlap later that day, but couldn't figure out what to make from that. I had thought that I would make a pillow for my couch, but didn't like that dark streak in the burlap on the bottom of the design, so needed to think of something that I would cut that off.

I was making some grocery bags for my niece-in-law (nephew's wife) and thought that my mermaid would look nice there. So done!

What a fantastic looking bag! The striped fabric really helps the design stand out. I am sure many people seeing this bag at the grocery store will heartily agree that "Life is Better at the Beach". Thanks for sharing! Your bag is gorgeous!

That is a fantastic stitchout! I also love that design. What size did you use?

It's the larger one... fit my 7x10 hoop. It took over 2 hours to stitch, but I loved watching the design come to life.

Super! I love it! What stabilizer did you use on the burlap? I have some lovely coloured burlap in my stash and was thinking what to do with it... You had a great idea.

I backed it with some broadcloth (cause I was planning to make a pillow and wanted the back to not be scratchy on the pillow form), then used two layers of tear-away. I used Solvy washaway on the top to keep stitches from sinking into the open weave. I didn't have any cutaway to use for this project, so that's why I did multi layers of other stuff to get it stable enough to hold the stitches.
