This is the tee-shirt, dropped waist dress I appliqued for grand daughters birthday. (It is also the new shirt that HAD the ink hoop marks on. I got them out !) The applique is from Designs by Sick. It stitched extremely well, but 27 stops-lol not all those were color changes, but you did have to stop and trim each fabric. Thanks to all for advice about attaching the cotton fabric to knit fabric, and all comments about ink stains-Toogie

What a darling little dress. I don't normally care for the owls but this one is as cute as can be with the coordinating fabric for the skirt.

Thank you for both, Lidia. She helped me with coleslaw yesterday. Had to have her apron on first though. I cut in chunks and let her drop in the blender, push the button. She couldn't make the button stay down, she's so little, she couldn't push it hard enough.-lol

Thank you- It wasn't too bad, although I do have a one needle machine. Once I tacked down my fabric and trimmed, the rest was smooth sailing.

I think it turned out very cute Toogie. I was thinking about doing this same thing for my Granddaughters for new school clothes. The ones I saw had 3 rows of ruffles. Love your fabric choices. I have some of the same fabric just waiting for the right project to come along. hugs, Susan

by toogie 27 Jun 2015
Hi Susan, I saw some with ruffles too....that may be another one!-lol-Anyway, the ones I saw didn't look like the ruffles were sewn to each other, tiered. They must be sewn to a 'base' skirt. Is that the ones you saw?... It would have to be some small ruffles for Nora, as her finished skirt is only a tad over 6 inches! Thanks for looking-Toogie

One day, I am actually going to learn to copy my comment before submitting. Lost my last comment due to a "que error", whatever. Anyway, the dress is absolutely beautiful and, of course, your little model too. The owl fabric and applique look like they were made for each other. I knew that little ole' ink stain would not get the best of you. It was so nice for others to give hints and tips on sewing the fabric to the tee shirt. It is obvious that you are enjoying sewing the beautiful outfits and accessories for your little one. Great work! Thanks for sharing.

Nancy, I found this fat quarter at Walmart, just lucked up, I guess. I thought, since the 2 was with an owl, it was the perfect fabric. Yes, I was glad for the hints and tips, just 'in case' my hairspray couldn't do the job. Thank goodness it did! Thanks as always-Toogie

I like the design too, Sonja, and it stitched really well. No problem, even the trimming was a breeze. I thought all the curves would give a problem, not so. Designs by sick has been giving some of the numbers free, in their hourly free designs. I know they gave 4 numbers, after I bought the set, but not #2 !-lol-Thanks for looking-Toogie

How did you manage to sew the cotton print-which by the way is adorable-to the knit without stretching the knit out--curious [I just gathered a piece of gauze type material and added to the bottom of knit and it is stretching and curling like crazy. I used a light needle bar tension and longer stitches.
by toogie 27 Jun 2015
One reason it didn't curl is maybe because my tee wasn't real stretch-y. It is a Garanimals size 3. Another may be because I stitched it close to the bottom, only 3 inches from hem. Not really sure as this was my first try. After I pinned my gathered skirt to my 4 position marks, (centers front and back, sides) I didn't pull my tee shirt fabric, just let it feed through on a slight zigzag stitch...maybe I just got lucky-lol

Thank you, I too thought these deigns were so sweet. If she is only 4 months you have plenty time, to think how you want to do this design. An outfit, a bib for when she eats her birthday cake or more, will make her a nice set.

I have been looking down at everyone's comments and I must be missing something because all I see is a pic of the design on pink material (the shirt) but I can't see the whole dress picture..... don't know what the deal is unless it was in a different post.... sorry I didn't get to see is as it sounds like the whole dress is just wonderful. Just wanted to let you know why I didn't say anything about the dress part of it.... I'm sure it's very nice and she will Love it very much. Mechille :)
