UPDATE ON NATALIE

Hi Gals, It is Saturday evening 8.00pm. Amy and I went down to Sydney on Thursday morning leaving at 7.30am. We got to the place where we were staying about 9.30 and we, Nat's parents and another friend all had an update on Natalie and then walked to the RPA (Royal Prince Alfred Hospital) which was only about a 10 minute walk.

We sat in the waiting room along with many others - only 2 people were allowed into each ICU bed. When it was my turn I went in as Amy had already gone in. To walk through the ICU cubicles, to say the least, was very confronting and I had tears in my eyes before I even go to see Natalie.

As I said in my earlier post she was swollen around the eyes, but as of today all that swelling has gone - and her speech is improving out of site. Amy kept on asking her questions and she was answering with the right things. She still has her great sense of humour, so we left with positivity. Later in the afternoon she had an Angiogram, but unfortunately they had to stop it not long after starting as she started to Vasospasm. The doctors had to remove the coil that had been placed in her groin through the Femoral artery, but it was in long enough for them to see there was another small Aneurysm - they saw that the first one has taken 100% and the next one can be done just through the Angiogram. They will not worry about fixing the Aneurysm on Monday, but will just do an ordinary Angiogram. They reckon also that she should be able to go up into a ward once this is all done.

When she finally gets to come home there will be lots of sleeping, resting etc. and small steps to improve herself. We don't know when she will be able to go back to work etc. So it's just a time game now.

Julie and Mark were moved to tears when they read all the prayers you have offered. I printed them all out after I took out my comments - and there were still 8 pages of prayers. They are a lovely family and Mark often broke down with us girls whenever we were together. Julie has been amazing but very teary as can be expected. All of Amy's friends raised $1000 just to give to Julie so she could put it towards her accommodation down in Sydney and even got her another $150 gift voucher for a hairdo. She was adamant she didn't want it, but the girls were very persistent.

I just wanted to let you know that all of the prayers, support and thoughts have been so overwhelmingly tangible and I cannot express my thanks. You are all wonderful, love and blessings Chris

This is good news. I am not sure why I am still tearing up. I read through the posts as you gave to Nat's family and found a few triumphant stories. It is incredible how technology has improved and saved lives. I lost my Mother to a brain bleed more than 40 years ago. I will continue to pray for Natalie and know that her walk with Amy will be extra special next year. .

I'm so grateful for the update. it is always good to know what to pray for and to give praise for the progress Natalie is making. Natalie and her family don't realize it, but they have become special members of the Cute family. And you and Amy are included in those prayers. We know you two need extra strength and comfort too.

Thanks Karen, The family were overwhelmed by all the outpouring of love and prayers. I knew she was going to be o.k. It might be a while to get back to 'normal' - whatever that might be, but to see her moving, speaking, winking, laughing was absolutely miraculous. Thank God for the best surgeon at RPA hospital who performed the operation. The nurses are so wonderful too, just so dedicated to their patients. Love Chris

Thanks Mary, it was encouraging to see her over the 3 days. The first time I saw her she was very puffy - I was warned about that. It was still very confronting to see her like that. By the time we left yesterday afternoon it was like looking at the old Natalie. Of course she has less hair than before, but that will grow back in time. Love Chris

Many thanks for the update. Great to hear she is getting better. It all takes time, and yes she will need lots of rest and sleep when she gets home. I had one back in 2001 so I know just how it throws the body out of wack. Was great of Amy's friends to raise money for Julie's accommodation. Friends can be so helpful in a time of need. Prayers are still coming Natalie's way for a full recovery. Hugs Shirley

Sounds more like leaps & bounds of improvement, she really is making miraculous strides. Having had 4 brain, head, neck surgeries, not for aneurisms, I have always been told that it would take about a year to fully know just what was going to improve. Nerve issues, tingling type pain, that type of symptom may continue to improve for months. It really is very good that they addressed her aneurisms quickly to help prevent damage from becoming permanent, which was one of the major reasons that I have the issues I do today. 3 1/2 years with fluid where is should not have been, was terrible. I am so grateful Natalie's Doctors were able to get that addressed immediately and the other small leak to be addressed on Monday- Prayers continuing in her, the family, doctors & hospital staff's behalf. The help with lodging, or gift cards for Natalie's or her families needs are exactly the kinds of help that show the family & Natalie that everyone is supporting them in every way they are able. They can not take away the trial but they can try to remove as many obstacles in their path that they are having to travel at this time. Often in our church we bring in meals to those who are going through a medical situation, a birth of a baby, a move etc. It is not that the people do not have the ability to make their own meals but it is a way to convey that we love & care about them, that we can not take away the trial but we can try to lighten their load they are carrying, if only by providing a few days of meals. I know another case of a paralyzed woman who many people have gone into her home for almost 20 years morning & night to help get her up & dressed & then again to help get her into bed for the night, a labor of service that has blessed the lives of all who have been involved and then more so as others who hear of the service have been moved to serve more in their own lives. I am so grateful that Natalie seems to be doing so well and I am deeply touched at all that her friends and family are being moved, to help them in any way they are able to help this wonderful family, with Christ like love, in the service they are giving to their dear friend and family member. I pray that the blessings continue to rain down on this family, that she will continue to heal at such an amazing rate. Pam

Cutie prayers are incredibly powerful, all the friendships & love that has come through this wonderful site make the prayers so much stronger when you feel you pray for someone (& for someone's family) you have come to know. Keeping all of you in my thoughts & prayers as she begins the journey back from this............ If there is anything I can add to this it would be sleep when your body tells you too. One of the hardest things for me to do is take so many naps but you heal while you sleep. ~Hugs & Blessings to you & yours Chris~

UPDATE MONDAY NIGHT 10.10PM

I've just had a message from Julie (Nat's mother).

"Hi Chris, Natalie has had Angiogram she was in Vasospasm which they treated will have to have another Angio tomorrow to see if she needs more treatment - still confused. Dad is OK he is staying with me at an apartment around the corner which has a lift. Merrin taking him home tomorrow - thank all your friends for their prayers and good wishes. I really appreciate it. Love Julie"

I had better elaborate about Dad - the Dad Julie is referring to is her father. He was 94 on Saturday and before Amy and I left the hospital we all had a cuddle and wished him a great day. Unfortunately on Sunday morning he had a fall and had to also go to hospital! Poor Julie!!!!!

Merrin is Julie's daughter-in-law and she will be driving Gordon home to Newcastle tomorrow Tuesday.
