Haven't tried one of these yet. Zipper kind of scary to me ITH but will try it eventually. These are very pretty.

zippers are easy peezy in the hoop. the machine all the work for you. I just tape (painter's tape) the zipper where I want it and stitch

I make stuffed animals ITH. It is much easier to me than using the sewing machine. You really should give it a try.
