Hopefully you have already found a solution but if you haven't you ight try this---turn off your computer, try putting your dongle in a different usb slot then try it again. I have different software but every once in awhile this happens. i think the dongle is ok but it doesn't seem to be quite solidely in the slot-I probably have bumped it so the connection isn't perfect.

turn your machine off and reload first. hope this helps

Ursula, I had this once with my Bernina and it had to do with an update to my bernina software, once I downloaded the update (off the bernina site) I was in business again........

Hi...I have a Viking and since day 1 it was finicky about this problem and the place where I bought it said it was my computer. I used to put it in and out several times til it worked. Finally I got a USB hub and plugged it into that and haven't had to touch it since. My hub looks like a little human...called "HubMan" but I'm sure you could find some kind of hub and try that.
