Your prize winning applesauce sounds soooo good...and I'm not even a lover of applesauce. I'm also un-American as I don't care for apple pie--I just love fresh, tart apples to eat. I might even 'love' your applesauce. the jars are very pretty. Try an applesauce cake and tell us what it is like with the caramel flavor.

what is an applesauce cake? It sounds very good too. If you like thick & creamy & so yummy & it has very little sugar added too lol (carmels have the added sugar) but if I make plain which I am low so again will make more this fall I only add 1/2 cup of sugar to the whole pot. Above is one batch
then you will like mine it is better then pie lol & not @ all gummy like some
If you go to AllRecipes.com....there are lots of recipes for applesauce cake.. I have made it for years and the applesauce makes the cake soooo moist. I've been making applesauce for almost 50 years too. It is so much better than the store stuff for sure.

I used Macintosh, Golden Delicious, Gala & Delicious apples cut & peel & pit. I use the old fashion crank to this all in one I add about 1 cup water to a full stock pot & process all the apples till soft & for this batch I added a bag of Brach's Creamy Caramels then use the processor to grind them very fine as I like applesauce very smooth not chunky & I add nutmeg cinnamon & ground ginger & can according to your favorite method. I boil to reduce some & then place in sterilized jars. Once you hear the pop you know there done bu t I leave them on the counter undisturbed for 48 hours. I have to say my applesauce is very thick & very smooth it really does taste very good. So much better then the loose stuff sold @ the stores. I hope that you give it a try. ~hugs~
you can spoon it upside down & it will stay on the spoon it will not drip like syrup does... it will slide off after a few seconds but not right away
Thanks for that, it sounds delicious. I have a crank (A modern one). looks the same as the one in the photo. My son has lots of apples on the trees in his orchard so I need to get picking. G
oh you are so lucky to have all the apples @ the ready & I have to say using more then one variety of apples make it taste so much better. Do post them so we can all see how wonderful they are. Thanks so much ~hugs~

I didn't can much this year, but I just finished making pear butter. Did it in the crockpot and the house smelled so good when I came home! I've got enough left to make some pear preserves.

wow that is terrific homemade peanutbutter wow YUM! good for you & pear preserves YUMMY too, thank you for sharing. ~hugs~
Nope, not peanutbutter, pearbutter - like apple butter with cinnamon (instead of jelly on your toast). Wish I could make peanut butter. I grew peanuts ONE year. My husband got sick about the time we needed to harvest and oh, boy, it was hard work. Never did that again!!
Oh loralye this sounds devine being an aussie not sure what your term "crank" is and Bachs Creamy Caramels i can taste it now on some icecream what else do you use it on...soozie
Oh Dear I am sorry I have re-read & of course now I see that it says Pear Butter. I have not heard of this before but it sounds quite yummy too. In which case I would love to have the crock pot recipe for it please & thank you I do hope that you come back to read this posting.
Soozie I hope that you come back to see the picture of my crank that JerriLynn has posted. I will look up a photo of Brach's Creamy Caramels too brb

My goodness that looks, and smells? yummy! My Great grandmother used to melt some of those cinnamon red heart candies in some of hers, and Oh my there were soooo special too! A friend of mine canned some zucchini relish that is out of this world too. It really zings up a hot dog!

oh wow that is a very good idea I will have to try to remember to buy extra in the new year so I can try this too, I gave the rest of my zucchini to my youngest & she is going to make some zucchini relish too. I have not had it so am looking forward to trying it too. Thanks Jan ~hugs~

Here is the old fashion crank.
This really sounds heavenly. I think I could just smear some on my tummy and be done with it, unless it's calorie free. :)

I've been making applesauce for almost 50 years and it surely beats the stuff in the store. I usually freeze mine as I still have a big freezer. I still can tomatoes and tomato sauce though. My dear MIL showed me how to make home made tomato soup...almost 50 years ago and I haven't bought a red and white can of it since! But I like those home grown tomatoes for it so I still can.

THAT'S QUITE WONDERFUL! My MIL canned back int he day so I thought I would try it too & I love canning my own jams & preserves. Your quite right that it tastes like no other & doesn't compare to store bought. We know exactly what is in it too & better yet we can pronounce it all too lol. Good for you too do this for so long myself I have been canning close to 40 years so with God's help ( & Hubs) I will continue as long as I can CAN lol ~hugs~

for my Aussie cuties this is the caramels I used, I used about 2 cups worth

Adding caramels sounds delicious....will have to give it a try this year!!! I have canned black raspberry jam, curry powder pickles (almost like Bread and Butter-grandmother's recipe), zucchini relish and spaghetti sauce. Still hoping to get some peaches and make jam from them and also do up some red pepper jelly too!

So proud of you as few women do this any more. I notice you use recycled jar with lids, Do they work out?
yes I always have & they work well if the seal is still intact. To buy new jars is very expensive so when I give any as gifts I always say if you give the jar back you will get another if you don't I won't remember to give out anymore to them. It helps me keep track of who likes what too. Thanks Kay & I do it because I love to can. ~hugs~
I mean memory wise not giving back not that I won't give any more to them if they give the jars back
