Good afternoon Cuties! I wanted to post this with my machine post, but it took s-o-o-o long to upload a photo, I gave up. I think something is wrong with my pc again.....Anyway, my oldest daughter called. Her husband bought me this, at an auction. No body would bid on it. You will never guess what he gave for it and it really works too!-lol- I do need to make another cover for it, looks like someone got it too hot.They may have locked the lid, before it cooled down. I realize it is an older model, but if it does the job, who cares. She brought it yesterday, while we were out and left it on the back porch. I pressed my capris, while I heated my coffee, this morning in no time flat! I don't have a book for it and can see a serial number, but no model number.... My co-worker had gotten me to pick her a new one up, about 2 years ago, when Hancock Fabric ran them for $199. This morning I told her to come in and see what my SIL bought me. She said she was tickled to death for me, because she loves hers. When I told her what he paid, she was speechless!-lol

Maybe the last two, but no sheets for me! My grandmother pressed everything, including underwear!!! It may be good for my panel curtains...I hate ironing those.
My grandmother did the same thing, and that was after she ran them through the ringer washer and hung them out on a line for awhile. I used to enjoy helping her back then, but I would not want to do laundry that way today.
Does anyone remember the lace curtain stretchers?
Never heard of those Lillian. Why would you need to stretch the curtains???.....I do remember they used to have plastic curtains! No kidding.
Yes, I remember them and how much I hated to help my mother stretch them on that frame.
Lillian, mlbell70, answer me why would you NEED to stretch the curtains? Did you stretch them wet, to allow to dry, so you would't have to iron them??? Inquiring mind wants to know!

I hope that is all it needs and I think I have some of this teflon reflective fabric. My friend said, just watch it till I get used to it, because they do get HOT.

Are we the last generation to be so happy to get an ironing machine???!!! I found one at a church rummage sale a few years ago, still in the box and never used for $20. I was doing the happy dance! I originally thought it would be great for pressing quilt blocks but quickly discovered that I could do all of our jeans, kacki golf pants,etc in about 20 minutes plus saving the drycleaning bill. (Don't let your fellows know this or you will have a new job!)

This makes me think back to when my son (who is now 45) was about 9 years old. We were at an auction and on oooold "mangle" came up for bid and nobody wanted it even back then. So the auctioneer offered to GIVE $2.00 to whoever would haul it away. MY son held up his hand and carted it home! He took it all apart for fun...and eventually most of the piece got thrown away....but it was surely entertaining for a while. Does anyone remember the old mangles???

They are the "vintage" ironers. If you go to ebay and type in mangle they have quite a few listed and it's a single roller thing that rolled and pressed. I saw one dated back as far as 1870 and another miniature one for a doll house. I AM showing my age now but I'm not THAT old. It was great for sheets back when they were not perma pressed but that's about all. Must be someone used them...they were plentiful.
I am just curious enough to go check them out, since I never heard, or saw one of these.
I loved it! while there I checked out a 1940's video about a wash day-lol Last around 17 min but loved it.I was tired after she finished!!!-lol

My co-worker told me how she does her hubby's shirts. He always has liked his sleeve creased and his jeans.

I used to have one of these. My Hubby bought it for me years ago cause he thought it would make things easier on me... I didn't like it, I only used it for his button up shirts, and it wasn't easy to iron/press. I said it would be something wonderful for pants and t-shirts, but I usually only did the button-up shirts..... so we sent it back.. I hope you enjoy it very much....

I'm gonna try. I don't like ironing my crochet doilies and my co-worker said she does hers on this. I also thought it would be well for my phone bags, etc.

I have this same one. It works great. I've not used it much and was purchased years ago. I had to pack it away with other things for a long time until finally I got a house of my own with a sewing room.--don't remember the price paid but I know upstairs in my booklets I will have the receipt or price written down--I usually save such things.

I'm glad you have a sewing room now, to enjoy. I think that's one reason, I didn't sew too much, when my 'kids' were still home. I didn't have a place to cut and sew, so the house would have been a mess, until I got it made and picked up. I am thankful, I too, have a room now.

Congrats. I have something similar and love it for ironing on stabiliser/ Vilene. All advice about not moving your Iron and pressing for x seconds - you are automatically following these instructions and with great results. You'll love it!

Congrats on your new presser. As one who regularly frequents local estate auctions, I can guess what your DD and SIL paid for your "new" treasure. However, crafting items generally go for a premium around here. Hubby and I own numerous "objects" because no one else was crazy enough to pack them home.

Hey, when no one would bid on the press, the auctioneer put a camping cot with it (my SIL has a camp) and asked if anyone would give him two dollars for both? My SIL said he would and auctioneer said SOLD ! So my daughter said, I guess you can say he paid $1. each-lol
I know that auctioneer game. I've reluctantly passed over small treasures because they came bundled with unwanted extras.
We both prospered in this transaction. I got the press and he got an extra cot, for his fishing camp!

Yup I remember as a child having to do all the sheets and pillow cases , dish towels anything flat. That was way before Teflon. Lo . Now this model will be wonderful for sewing pant etc. Nice of your SIL./Lillian

Yes, it was nice.... All I remember as a child ironing, was what happened to me, one time I ironed. In the summer I used to wear shorts and had some little tops, that had elastic at a high midriff and ties at the shoulders, so my tummy was exposed. I got a little too close, to the side of the ironing board and pressed a long blister across my tummy!-lol- I know I was too young to be trying to iron, but I don't really remember how old I actually was... I also remember momma had a long pair, of very sharp pointed shears, I accidentally sat on. I still have the scar on my hip/cheek. I was scared to tell her, more because I was scared to death to go to the doctor. When she saw blood coming out from under my hand, where I was holding my little hand over the hip, she knew what had happened. I don't think she left her scissors on the sofa after that or maybe I paid more attention.-lol

It's good to be missed, makes me think someone cares!..Avery had more health problems, last week, and I had her for 3 days, with Nora for 2 of those days, too. I only had a 2 day break, in between keeping just Nora for the week-end before, for Ashley and Grayson to take a week-end trip. I didn't go or do ANYTHING all this past week-end, except church on Sunday. I was whipped, to say the least!---Don't you just hate it when you loan someone something and then you either, have to go get it, or ask them to bring it back? You know she sees something this size, and also knows, its not hers. That's such a shame.
