My GD has asked me to sew a design on a stretch headband - the headband is slightly shaped as it goes over the ears. My question is do I hoop the headband to stretch it as it will be stretched when worn? And stablizer? Thank you. Sarah

I think I would hoop it with a bit of stretch as you say.

Firstly Sarah I would get Georgie to try the headband on to get an idea of how much it stretches. Then mark the headband where you will need to sew the embroidery. When you stitch on an item that will be worn stretched – you need to embroider it stretched out. If you have a stay stitching option on your embroidery machine I'd use it to keep the headband in place. Another good tip is to use the adhesive stabiliser.
Have a look on the internet there are a few places that show you how it is done. Good luck, love Chris

Thank you Chris. I will have a look on the Internet. Unfortunately we cannot get sticky stabilizer here. Having said that, I have never seen it.

Yup...I'm with Chris...and if you can't get sticky stabilizer or the temporary spray adhesive...use tear away and pin one side (outside of the stitch area)...stretch the headband a bit...and pin the other side (outside of the stitch area)...I have done this and it works quite well...
