Just wanted to share our newest arrivals - Mum and Dad and sibling from last year have been feeding these little ones constantly over the past few weeks. The parent birds arrived in the beginning of Spring (about the 7th September actually).
I finally got Trev to hold the ladder for me so I could take a shot of them. They are really quite well developed and very cute.
They should leave the nest in another 3-4 weeks. Love Chris

I was quite surprised at how big they already were. I've been wanting to take photos, but there's always been something on over the past few weeks. These were taken about 2 hours ago. Trev and I were out in the back reserve this morning cleaning out an area with some native trees and we reseeded new grass and the Kookaburras had a ball eating all the big fat worms and grubs. Chris you have done well feeding and keeping the family around. They do grow very quickly with your help, love kookas we have some at the back fence on the golf course. Love to see them and hear their laugh. We actually have about 20 different types of birds come and go each year, you could sit and watch for hours. Sandra.

Perfect nesting spot, great photos you are able to get too! Thank you so much for taking and sharing them as many of us will never get to see them aside from the internet. It is nice how there are now so many sites you can watch the eagle nests or the bears in the rapids , live feeds, that brings nature right into our homes. Thanks again, Pam

You are right Marian, normally they don't mind us as we leave them alone. But, today when I was coming down the ladder one of the birds came out of the back reserve and swooped at me. He/she obviously thought I was there to harm his/her babies. They don't actually hit you, just fly close by. Love Chris

Careful on that ladder Chris. I always watch for your posting on the Kookaburras . I enjoy seeing and hearing about them every year. Sure don't want you falling off a ladder to do it though . /Lillian

Hi Yoriko, yes we are lucky to have this tree in our backyard. We paid a lot to have it treated so there are no white ants in it now. Love Chris

Isn't nature wonderful how these two birds return every year and have another chick or two. Mating for life thats what it all about. It is the same here with the Canada Geese, they also mate for life. Thanks for sharing these pictures, Chris. Hugs Lynn
