Just in case some of you who are using Windows computers haven't yet discovered the Sticky Note!

Click on the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.
That will open a box.
One of the things in the list in that box should be Accessories, click on that and a new list will appear.
One of the new list should be Sticky Notes. Right click on that which will open another box.
One of the choices in that list will be Pin to task bar. Click on that.
A new icon like the circled one in the picture should appear in the row across the bottom of your screen.
Click on that and a yellow square will appear on your screen.
You can type onto it and it will still be there after you have switched your computer off and back on. (Clever isn't it?)
The cross will delete it and the plus sign will open another one.
I use one for the list of moderators ready to copy and paste into a PM.

Just for Carolyn - if you right click on the sticky, you will get an option to change the colour. Purple is in the list!

It is on Windows 8, but you may have to type Sticky Notes into the search box at the bottom of the Start menu.

Many thanks for this, I typed in the search box and it appeared. It will be fun to use and cut down on all the hand written notes that litter my table. G

These instructions are for Windows 7 - you may need a variation for other versions.

I'm one of the Cuties saying thanks. I have Windows 7 and found it with no trouble thanks to you. I've written down the steps so I can add this to my limited list of things I can do.

Thanks Sue, especially for the customized color tip. I keep a sticky note up with my hoop sizes on my new-ish machine, trying to learn them, and always needing to check against designs.

Sticky notes and snipping tool are available in Windows 10. Click on start, click on all apps, scroll down and click on windows accessories. They are in the drop down menu. Have fun! Hugs, Barba

Thanks - I haven't needed to actually search on Windows 10. My sticky notes and snipping tool were both still in the task bar when I upgraded.

I do not believe this is part of any browser, it is an accessory to windows. It should be accessed through your start button at the lower left hand corner of your computer screen. Hugs, Barba

I think we are all challenged at different times. LOL Hugs,Barba

Your so smart. I found the sticky notes but can't get the thing to change color . When I right click nothing happens. Also, I can't write on it.

You need to have your cursor in the box. Left click to type and right click to change colour.

You can, just drag the corner in - right bottom corner works for me.
by spendlove 23 Nov 2015
I didn't know that - mine was always the size of a post-it note. I've now made it a bit bigger.
by dragonflyer 23 Nov 2015
Thanks, Martine...makes it a bit smaller...

Thanks for a new lesson and new knowledge added to my brain Sue. I found the sticky notes I could use on this windows 8 that has given me so much trouble. It's easier to write on a sticky note than look for pen and pad and then forget where I put the pad, now I can have it right at my fingertips/Lillian

Lillian,I put my notes for computer reminders on bits of paper that I then put on my laptop keyboard before I close the top down. Just thought doesn't work on a regular keyboard. Oops! :-)
