Hi Marian, I have a couple of cones that did this very same thing...What I was wondering..how will you transfer them from one cone to another?

They wouldn't be Raiman reels by any chance, because they are the only brand of thread that this has happened to me.

I have had this happen to me. I have used them upside down and also transferred the thread onto bobbins

Hi Marian, what I've done is place a plastic tube inside the tube and broken off the brittle bits and that has given it a bit more life. The ones in the picture below are ones that I saved, but I've still put plastic tubing inside them, so that they won't break whilst on the spool holder. Otherwise do what the others have suggested and rewind them onto other spools. Good luck. Mine that broke like this were Dragon threads. Never bought them again. Love Chris

Why not try Echidna, if you have not already enquired,they may have some spare empty. This has not happened to me, but may be it could be glued to an old cd for a flat base, i would put a thin plastic or cardboard cotton reel inside to hold the broken one upright first. Good Luck. Sandra.

I have had the same problem with my dragon threads ,and I also bought lots of them ,I have had to just throw some of them out , because the just become a tangled mess or the inside spool crushes

Thank you ladies, 2 very special cuties have come to my rescue. I will have to be very careful with the rest of the threads so as not to break more I have over 150 of this brand.. I know what my daughter will be doing after Christmas. hehehe What a New Years Surprise..

This has been a very interesting read. I have some threads that have done this but assisted by me when I have accidently trodden on them.

HI IF THE SPOOLS ARE SO DRYED OUT I WOULD MOG POG THE INSIDE OF THE SPOOL .TAKE AN EXATO KNIF AND CAREFULY SHAFE THE THE SHARP PARTS.THIS WORKED ON SOME OF MINE.HOPE THIS HELPS...LUCY

I have never seen this happen before. If this has happened to the plastic spool it makes me wonder if the thread is still all right. Very interesting post.

This happened to me and I shoved a small empty cone inside from the bottom and that saved the day and no rewinding. If you need some I have 9 I could post to you.

I agree with the plastic tubing & I have done this as well as duck tape the bottoms on a couple that I have dropped. I used my drill to slowly rewind onto another spool, a real time saver & go on the slowest speed but it worked for me quite well, Best of luck ~hugs~

I've put some into the post for you today. It'll be interesting to see what kind of condition they arrive in -the lady at the PO was concerned that the envelope may not be tough enough, but I had at least lined it with a recycled padded bag. Time will tell :)
